It was Friday, March 31, 2009 and we were looking for a place to eat. There is a wonderful little restaurant called Taqueria Vallarta Jalisco on Riverside Drive so we thought we would eat at the one on South Congress Avenue. I hadn't eaten there since 1995 and the food was great so we decided to go inside.

BIG MISTAKE! I am still throwing up blood and mucous and whatever microorganisms were in the food.
The staff scowled at us when we came in the door and began saying words like "pinche juerdo," " Bollios""Gabacho" and "Ponga alguna mierda en sus comidas." I thought they were referring to the obviously intoxicated white man who was sitting in the booth behind us raving about how he should have gone to the convenience store and had nachos instead... A scantily clad woman was with him and there was the stench of beer all over the place!EVERYBODY was DRINKING!Roaches roamed under the table and the toilet in the women's room was stopped up and apparently had been for quite some time! Everybody was drinking alcohol and I mean everybody. We don't drink.

The old man who opened this restaurant was a very nice person and he made sure his restaurant was IMMACULATE! He encouraged a nice family atmosphere not a sleazy place where foul-mouthed drunks of all ethnicities could congregate.

I looked toward where the kitchen was. There is a rectangular opening from there to the main dining room and the cook was digging in his nose with a finger.
I had the chicken enchiladas and my dining companion had the combination plate with the pierno de puerco and the fajitas. The mesero or waiter kept snickering and muttering thigs under his breath at us. I jad always had good service in this restaurant before but there was something different.

I guess we just didn't get it because we aren't prejudiced. Bigots don't eat in ethnic restaurants.
The snide remarks --slightly slurred by beers consumed kept getting louder. I noticed that my enchiladas didn't taste very good and apparently my companion noticed that his fajitas weren't tasting the wy they should and that the frijoles refritos seemed rather watery!

The waiter hovered and kept asking us if everything tasted good and if we were alll right. he had sheer hatred in his eyes but we were so hungry, we just ate up as fast as we could and paid out.
IT COST US $15.00 plus $1 for the juke box to GET FOOD POISONING.

Saturday night, we were both running a high fever hot flashes, crawling to the restroom and losing our expensive Mexican meal from evey bodily orifice! My dining companion was totally useless on his job on Saturday and Sunday and all I could do was throw up. It is Monday, Apri 3, 2006 now and I am STILL SICK. I might have to have EMS take me to the Emergency Room!

Maybe we should have drunk beer even though our religion forbids it and there were cops waiting outside to arrest anybody who came outside whom they had observed drinking beers because nobody inside cares how many beers they serve!
The appropiate agencies were notified after I regained my strength to make the telephone calls.

DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET FOOD POISONING!!!!!

These people are hate-mongerers, bigots and racists who put something in the food of anybody they think is of a different ethnic group than themselves. They were laughing and high-fiving each other as we left.
DO NOT EAT HERE!

I worked around the block from Vallarta and ate there on a daily basis. I'm as white as they come and I never experienced any form of discrimination. Of the hundreds of meals I've consumed, I never once got sick. I must admit that I ate there during breakfast or lunch and having worked at restaurants I know that showing up around closing time can make a lot of disgruntled employees mad.

Not too many places are open in Austin, Texas after 10 p.m. since the high tech industry which used to run 24/7 was hit so hard in the 2001 Recession! Plus, we were just too old and tired to drive all over town, all night long looking for a reasonably priced place to eat. The 24/7 restaurants usually want $15 PER entree and we just don't have that kind of money. Gasoline is becoming more and more expensive!

It's just that simple.

So we had to hope for the best.

Since we had done nothing to deserve the insults, we had no idea that they were going to "spike" OUR food! We just don't think like that and we would NEVER do anything like that to another human being.

When you have been forced to take a $9 an hour job after having made at least triple and quadruple that per hour during the high -tech boom, even $6.00 can be a very expensive meal. Regardless of what the propaganda says, the Central Texas economy has not returned to what it was before the High-tech Depression... It's all going to India or China or someplace else.

I have gone into places that looked much worse and had some of the BEST food this side of Heaven! WITHOUT E.coli.

This was DELIBERATELY done!

So I have to warn people about this place.

Last night I ate at their newest restaurant location like I always do and the food was WONDERFUL as usual there.

People who deliberately infect people with E. Coli are RIP-OFFS! They RIP-OFF your money and create hatred, distrust and animosity when there was none before.

The SOUTH CONGRESS AVENUE LOCATION of TAQUERIA VALLARTA JALISCO IS A RIP-OFF!

If it looked so horrid, why did you stay? By the way, $15 is NOT an expensive meal.

I knew the kindly, old man who opened this restaurant and he would NEVER have permitted this to have happened to anyone. He was all about people having fun and sharing Mexican food, music and culture with EVERYONE! I ate at this restaurant for years and the food was always WONDERFUL! African Americans, Native Americans, EVERYBODY who wanted to come in and have something to eat was welcome! Just pure old Mexican hospitality...like I would show anyone who came to my house.

I lived in Mexico for many years and this has NEVER, EVER happened to me before in MEXICO or in TEXAS !

Also, there are three restaurants which are in the same family ( I guess, after this incident, I am NOT sure) and I have eaten at the other two with no problems. I ate at one of them the night before I ate here and the food was DELICIOUS! SABOROSO!

Like I said, I thought they were laughing at the drunk white guy who was being so loud and obscene and obnoxious... I didn't like him either. So I let it slide. I had no way to know that they meant ALL lighter-complected people and some of the kitchen crew had blue eyes and blonde hair,by the way. Spanish is not that specific...

There was hardly anyone in the place. It used to be crowded with family people, all kind of people because ALL people who wanted to come and eat there were welcome-- IT IS JUST GOOD BUSINESS and the original owner was just a very nice, hospitable, elegant traditional guy--a REAL Mexican; beer was drunk responsibly with meals (limit two) and there was some really great mariahi music in the jukebox. NOBODY GOT DRUNK IN THERE! THE COPS DID NOT WAIT ON THE PARKING LOT FOR THE PATRONS TO COME OUT. THE COPS WERE EATING INSIDE TOO --and SMILING.( No beer for them!).It was fun, it was like going to Mexico without leaving Texas and I loved to go there.

I like to give Mexican restaurants the benefit of a doubt because I have found that some of the most humble little places have MAGNIFICENT SOUL FOOD and I have to keep touch with my Mexican heritage -- from my dad who was born and raised there. I recommend these undiscovered little places to people and they grow into larger restaurants. This happened to one of my favorite taco stands and they have to have a armored car come by their restaurant twice a day now because of all the people who eat in there. Again, ALL kinds of people because this is how the REAL MEXICANS are! They really care and sick diners are VERY,VERY BAD for business.

I guess the old man must have retired or sold his restaurant because it sure isn't like it used to be. Maybe I shouldnt have stayed away from that location for nearly 10 years but the other two restaurants are EXCELLENT --that is, for now.

I will continue to add discriminatory, prejudiced business establishments regardless of WHO owns them or WHO they VICTIMIZE because they are a REAL RIP-OFF! They not only rip off anybody stupid enough to eat in there but they RIP OFF their communities, their culture and create HATRED where none existed before.

THEY ARE A RIP-OFF KIND OF PLACE!

WE PAID FOR WHAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A DELICIOUS MEAL FROM WHAT USED TO BE A NICE FAMILY RESTAURANT WITH AUTHENTIC, AABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, CLEAN FOOD! What we got instead was SO SICK WE WERE EFFECTIVELY PUT OUT OF COMMISSION FOR NEARLY FOUR DAYS!

THAT WAS A RIP-OFF!

Why on earth did you stay there and eat?
