Tara Lowenguth, who runs the dorms of the Genesee Community College, made the horrible mistake of not giving back security deposits. She did not make this mistake once, however, but four times. Forced to leave the public housing portion of these college dorms (the reason being that they were turning them into more rooms for college students), three people had to move out on thirty days notice all to find out that there was to be no security deposit.

Each were given letters stating that there was something wrong with the apartments which resulted in two out of four not getting any part of their security deposits. The two that did get their security deposit backs did not receive the whole amount.

There were various excuses why no one received their security deposits. One was that a fire extinguisher had been used. Another was that there was excessive dirt on the bathroom walls. The list just goes on and on. Letters were sent complaining to her and we even filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office, but to no avail.

We all want to see justice served and if one knew all the details of what happened, you would know that something is going on.

Rebuttal to Ron

I am the original writer of the rip-off report and I have a couple of more comments to add so that Ron and any others that have questions will be answered. First of all, I was not a college student when I lived there. I went to Syracuse University for three years prior to living there, and I had no previous problems from Syracuse University or any other dwelling that I lived at regarding security deposits or any other like problems.

Second of all, I tried to resolve this matter in a responsible manner before posting the report. I wrote a letter to the persons in questions as well as contacting a lawyer. I talked with the other four people with the same exact situation as mine (who were adults, not college students) and we decided to contact the attorney general's office regarding tenant's rights. Although they weren't lawyers, they tried to contact Genesee Community College and there was no response.

I am a single parent and a security deposit is very important to me. I would have liked at least a response from them or some sort of explanation on how they could do that to five different people with no repercussions. I am saddened by what happened and now I think my only other course of action is small claims court.

No, Ron, it is NOT the end of the story. My name is Fraud Hammer X, and I am sickened by filthy frauds who pollute this planet tooting their horns at the expense of those who suffer. I'm talking about jackasses like YOU Ron! You filthy shill, you're not even worthy of the effort to go FRAUD HAMMERTIME on your geriatric a*s, but here's some straight up POW! Did that hurt, old sourdough?

Maybe now you should get it through your thick skull that these hard-working students had their MONEY STOLEN by a thief. Who cares about your kids? If they did go to college (sure!) they did the work to graduate, not you! All you did was sire them! Big deal! Find something else to brag about, you big fat phony!

When it comes to filth and sloppiness, nothing matches that shill mouth of yours.

As a parent of 4 adult children, all of whom graduated from various colleges around New York State, I had to laugh when I saw your Rip-Off article regarding failure to reimburse security deposits.

In all fairness the name of the deposit should be changed from Security Deposit to something more appropriate like, "Keep your room neat, clean, and in good repair deposit."

Let's face it. Most college kids are slobs and totally ignorant as to how to take care of a facility. If you don't believe me, just ask any parent.

In closing, please get real and stop trying to bullshit the bullshitters. The reason the deposits were withheld was because the kids in the rooms were negligent as to their responsibilities "per contract" or the money would not have been witheld. END OF STORY
