Target Return Policy terrible terrible service

Beware Target's return policy on electronic purchase. I bought Microsoft's XP from Target and it will not load on my computer. It says there is a conflict between the video card and motherboard and to contact the manufacturer. (Strange, MS Millennium works on it.) I tried to return it to Target but they said "No way" and said I would have to call microsoft for help who says I have to contact the manufacturer. Target said they would only allow me to trade it in for another copy but since they were out of stock, I would have to drive to another store to do it. Terrible terrible service. Consumer beware! They have a "No return policy" on a lot of items.

First of all, can you tell me why Target should take a shortage because your computer is not compatiable with XP? How is this Target's Fault.

The Chargeback Process is much like consumers returning merchendise to the stores. If an item is returned because it broke or didn't fit, Target will turn around and return it to the manufacture, seeing there the ones that Target bought that Merchandise from. Now, on computer software, policies have been put in place becasuse of the amount of Fraud that can be committed. For instance, I buy a computer game or program, take it home, copy it and then return the original for money back. FRAUD So... most stores have switched to a strict return policy on these such items. Only because when these items are returned and have been opened, Target cannot return these to the manufacture, so it becomes a $$ Loss to the store.

It is not the Distributers fault that your computer could not handle the software. I don't know what Microsoft could do for you, but i do know that Target will not take a loss of profit because of your computer problem. Thats life.

Most places (all that I can think of) will refuse to give you a refund for opened computer software since all you have to do is to open it, make a copy, and return the original for a refund.

The policy that I usually see is the same as Target's. If the software/media is defective, they will exchange it for you. If you have problems making it work, they'll refer you to the manufacturer (like Target did).
