Target Store exchange policy joke Midland Michigan
Our little one received a Dora snuggle pillow, which I would term a toy, for Christmas. Everyone in our family knows she loves Dora, and she received two of this identical gift.
I checked with my sister, who lives about two hours away and she said she got it at Target. This still has all tags on it and is in pristine condition. I tried to return it (Yes, I know. Shame on me-no receipt/and before you yell gift receipt, she didn't get one because it was 'Black Friday' and she had a cart full of merchandise).
Not being up on exchange policy, since I usually keep what I purchase, I figured "NO problems, since i just wanted a simple exchange". Ha Ha, I was told that this was not a toy and I could exchange it for something of equal or greater value from the HOME IMPROVEMENT department. I thought the associate was confused, and asked for her supervisor.
By the time I was dismissed by the store manager and told to call guest relations, I had seen enough. Target has lost another customer, and every family member and friend she can take with her, because if the corporate offices don't trust their management enough to allow for unusual situations like this, I don't either. Keep in mind, I didn't want to return a stuffed Dora doll and get a C.D. or earrings, just another toy for a little girl who already had one.
I know the associates and management team have no authority to make decisions so I don't blame them for policy, but they could at least 'act' as if they cared about customer satisfaction. And before any Target employee responds that the policy is for everyone, and I'm no-one special, let me say that neither is Target. I was even told by someone at the 'guest relations' line that they receive a lot of grief over the policy restrictions.
Does Target really think that by irritating honest customers(since the crooks won't be offended) they are going to keep their customer base? In closing, I can only repeat that this was the dumbest $15.00 mistake I've seen a retailer make in a long time.

I'd like to make a comment about the statement made by the Target employee:
He wrote: "Did you even bother to look at the selection Target offered you?"
Did you even bother? This is the EXACT mean of the posters story. Her Feelings which you, another Target employee has not even considered!
Lee, the poster is a customer who was simply asking for some "customer service".
Which in Lee's opinion (which is the only opinion that matters because she is the customer) she felt as if she was not even "listened too". She felt she was not provided with any level of "Customer Service".
That, Target employee's is the POINT. HOW THE CUSTOMER FEELS! The CUSTOMERS are the ONLY reason you have a JOB. Service us, make us feel important, LISTEN to us, provide us with every extention of CUSTOMER SERVICE that you possibily can.
Rather you attack us and ask: " Did you even bother" Sorry, That's not what customers deserve. We deserve better.

At the time of the filing of this report, character bedding was a part of the home improvement department/class listing. Many stores had the aisles in/near domestics, but the items were registered under home improvement. They were not switched until mid 2006.

The pillow is a part of Domestics, so you would of had to exchange it for something else in that area. There were other Dora lamps, night lights, curtains, bedspreads, and more Dora items you could have exchanged it for, or just something else in that department for your daughter's room.
Did you even bother to look at the selection Target offered you? A pillow isnt considered a toy, but an item to decorate a room .... was that so far off base? when you have a problem with the policy, what can the workers do but give you the number to the corprate guest relations? They have nothing else in there power but to apologize to you again and again and again and offer you something else in Domestics for the same price...
