I went to file my taxes online with Tax Brain @ Taxbrain.com. I selected the option to get my refund back in 2 days. Really needing the money back I was willing to pay the $133 to get it back in 2 days. It took 3 days to get accepted from the IRS. After unhelpful people in the live chat box, I finally figured it out on my own by calling the IRS. I was relieved to FINALLY get acceptance back from the IRS. Then to find out the next day that I would have to wait 2 weeks to get my return back. When I asked TaxBrain why, that told me I need to call Santa Barbara Bank and Trust, SBB&T.

When I called them, I was told that my check was at risk and they were unable to process the loan in fear that I would not get my refund back on time to pay the loan amount. The guy acted as if they would never get the money for the loan amount. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Are you seriously going to tell me that there is fear that the Internal Revenue Service is not going to get my check to them on time.

Well now here is where I have a big issue. SBB&T is going to charge me $30 handling fee to process my check. Why should have to pay them when I have to wait. Not only that, but Tax Brain is going to take $30 as well for the filing fee. This is a scam if I ever saw one. False advertisement! What kind of company is this? I have never been denied a RAL in my 47 years. This is just absurd!

Never Had A Problem With SBBT

I just wanted to reply to your comment. This is not a scam. I don't know about taxbrain so I don't know what the turn around time is with them however on average when you do the efile it takes 8-14 days for the IRS to issue the refund. I filed my taxes last Wednesday and I am to receive my refund from SBBT this week as promised. I have used them for over 10 years and never once encountered the problem. The only way they would decline is if for some reason the IRS has flagged your refund, meaning that you may not get the full refund because of a lien. I have never with the exception of taking out a rapid refund loan which charges hundreds of dollars and in some states considered predatory lending and deemed illegal, where any tax program online or not will tell you that you would get a refund in 2-3 days. It takes nearly 48 hours for the IRS to accept your return and then they hold it for at least 7 days to make sure you have no liens on you that will decrease your refund. And yes, these people have every right to charge you a fee -- they are doing you a service.
