I made an overdraft of $6.89 to pay my credit card. Since i opted out  overdraft to avoid fees ,TCF didn't payed . The credit card resubmited to TCFand  obtained payment when i finally deposited money. TCF charged me twice $39 total almost $80 overdraft fee for an  $6.89 overdraft they never paid.. How can they charge me for a service they never gave me?

Did you know that TCF stands for THE CUSTOMER FIRST?  If that is the premise upon which they founded their bank, they are way off base!  I've had nothing but problems with them. There fees are excessive. They deliberately look fot ways, such as changing the order of transactions, to maximize the $ of peonalties they can change you. I agree with the person in Vernon Hills-they will look for, and find ways to charge you more-whether it's an overdraft, or NSF.

Someone pointed that he/she may not have overdraft protection. If he thinks he does, but really doesn't, it's likely the cause of their employees.  They would tell you anything you want to hear, just to get the commission from opening a new account. I had also been told I had this protection. Unfortunately, that was bad information.

I've banked with them since the mid 80's. We've fallen on hard times lately due to a job loss, and a spouse on disability. We even had 6 figure bank accounts, for more than 1 member of this family at one time. NONE of our loyalty to this bank has gotten us any consideration.

In addition, they've initiated new software. This software takes away the power a bank branch manager has to use his/her brain, and act according to each customer's circumstances.

I could go on and on.  What I can say-TCF is NOT about THE CUSTOMER FIRST. They shoudl rename themselves "BFF BANK". Bank Fees First-and how can we maiximize our potential to screw a customer on a daily basis.

The Vernon Hills guy was spot on-they screwed him/her.

You are confusing the name of the service with all that it covers. In this case, each of the attempts counts like a returned check. You had NO overdraft protection, which means that instead of paying the request, since you had NSF or non sufficient funds it is counted as a returned check. Banks tend to simplify their fees for the consumer.

Debit is just like a paper check with the exception that its virtual. As such the fees tend to be the exact same fees. You can dispute this with your bank but it wont help. They will just say you knew you didnt have enough in your account to cover this so why did you do it.
