In light of the 2007 noose and swastika incidents at Teachers College, I would like to advise all prospective students and current students to steer clear of the diversity programming, courses that the school markets and sells. These courses do not foster greater understanding between different racial and ethnic groups, nor is that their true intent. They are offered to make the school and it's affiliate Columbia University appear diverse and liberal. These course are very expensive and are proven moneymakers for the school. Among the sham course offerings are the Winter Roundtable (held in February, each year), and

30121 CCPJ5020 001 RACISM & RACIAL IDEN PSY & ED

31895 CCPJ5165 001 RACIAL CULTURAL COUNSELING:LAB This class asks you information about aspects of your identity which by law have protected status ( your race, religion, ethnicity and social class), a value judgment is then made, and if the instructor does not like what you have written, you might fail the class and you are out of $4k.

and

most of the diversity course offered by the schools Center for Education Outreach and Innovation. This center is merely individual course offered for credit or non-credit, but are also proven moneymakers, and are good PR for the school. Below are some current offerings:

Teaching The Levees
A&HW 5050A.001 / CRN 21207

Facing History & Ourselves
C&T 4803AB.001/CRN 20209 or A&HW 4803AB.001/CRN 20420

Teaching Mathematics in Diverse Cultures

Teaching Mathematics in Diverse Cultures:
Spanish Language Study Tour
IND 4005AB.001/CRN 20780

Much of the administration, professors and student body at Columbia University and Teachers College e are some of the most prejudice people I have ever encountered, but the school uses these courses, such as the ones above and events listed above to cover it up. Save your money. A trip to your local library and an open mind will serve you much better.
