I was shopping at Meijer in Lansing, MI. I was purchasing one thing, and the total came to 240.00. I handed the cashier my check, and she sent it through the machine. It started printing like crazy, she then handed the check back to me and sais that the check had been denied. I read the back of the check, and it had such statements as, Meijer did not make the decision, for a detailed description of why your check was declined, please write to us, or call this 1800 number. So, while still in the store I called the 800 number, and it was all recorded, finally I was transfered to a human being. He went on to ask me for my driver license number, my checking account, and routing number, and amount of purchase. I was put on hold for about 3 or 4 minutes, then he came back to the line, and started speaking as if he were reading from a script, saying "You came up as a code 3, which means, although, you are not in our system for any negative reasons, Telecheck continually monitors incoming check requests, and we flag potential fraudulent activities". He went on to say that the decision could not be overturned. I gave him my driver license number, the cashier saw that the person on the ID was me, same name and address on the ID and check, and yet they still say it's possible fraud. I have written good checks to this store tons of times before, and now all of a sudden I am a risk, even though all my checks cleared???? Where does telecheck get their information, or lack of? Will I be declined anyplace else I go to write a check? Come on now!!!
