I have to add a very unfortunate, recent experience with Terstappen as well. We had booked a car through Expedia.com with (we thought) Dollar Rental to be picked up at Munich airport on 09/01/2011 until 9/14/11. Our rental confirmation shows a total price, all inclusive, of $306.13. At the counter we immediately noticed that, aside from the "Dollar" logo, we would be dealing with Terstappen, whom we never heard of and would not have rented from for that reason. Immediately they refused to honor our Mastercard insurance, which we had confirmed prior to our departure. We were forced to pay 30 Euros per day for insurance coverage, which brought our total to $887.55 for the car rental, a total budget buster! The car, a sick sounding Kia, was so filthy, I thought it had participated in an off-road rally, with mud splashed across the passenger door including the inside frame. Over time, the Kia (an "upgrade" by the way) hummed louder and louder. On day 12 it died a sudden death! When I say sudden, I mean in the middle of a major intersection at 10 p.m. from one second to the next. Nothing worked, no brakes, no steering, no warning lights, no lights. After more than 2 hours the car was finally towed. The next "vacation" day was spent making about 17 calls and receiving at least that many with ever changing updates. The gentleman who helped us was very nice and personable though, I have to say that. We were promised a C Class Mercedes as a substitute to make up for our troubles. After 16 car-less hours, a pair of clowns (Laurel and Hardy-esque) arrived at a Park & Ride we had to go to using public transportation, because their GPS could not locate a major street in Bamberg where we were staying. They arrived in a C Class and a Kia. You guessed it, we got the Kia and they rode back to Frankfurt in style with the Mercedes. But before that, we noticed that the Kia was almost out of gas and the agreement was that they had to fill it, because the first Kia died with a full tank. Well, Terstappen allows only Shell to fill their cars. We ended up driving all over the city in search of one of only two Shell gas stations. When we returned the car we were assured that we would get immediate credit for our $300 additional deposit. We did not get credited for 20 days and by then we lost over $30 due to the exchange rate. We feel completely scammed and wish we had the chance to read these reviews first, rather than being led to believe we were renting from Dollar. "Rent a Terstappen" ? Not bloody likely ever again! BEWARE!
