I was contacted by a woman who said she had recieved my resume and wanted to schedule me for an interview with Texas Charity Events.  As my resume has extensive managment experience, I didnt question how she recieved my resume as I dont remember actually applying to this company.  She said they did have managment positions available so I went ahead and scheduled an interview.  When I walked in the office the first thing I noticed was that there was no receptionist there to greet me or sign me in.  Although a woman called me and scheduled my interview, I walked into a room of other waiting interviewees with no woman in sight.  Later a man came out and said hi, asked if I was there for an interview and asked for my resume.  I immediatley recognized him from an intervie I had a few year back in Arlington somewhere along HWY 360.  I gave him my resume he in turn handed me a form to fill out with basic information and said he would be with me shortly.

When it came my turn to interview, I noticed that he had no interest in my resume.  It was strickingly familiar to the interview in Arlington.  He did not ask how I could be a benfit to the company or what it was that I could bring to the table.  He didnt ask about my previous positions or why I was currently seeking employment.  Instead it was more of a sales pitch that one would endure at a time share event rather than an interview.

I listened to his pitch.  His claim that his company raised the most amount of money for DARE America.  Again, identical to the picth in Arlington, except back then it was some Breat Cancer Charity he said he was supporting.  When he was done it boiled down to the same pyramid scheme they tried to catch me up in back in Arlington.  It was a new company name.  It was a new product.  But the same guy and I would still be standing at a gas station begging for money and pushing a product for full commission.  Nothing close to what my qualifications of my resume read.  Nothing close to what was described to me on the phone when my interview was booked.

I was told I was interviewing for a Management Position.  Flash back.  I was being hired to sell product and if I could hire and retain enough people I would be promoted, but not as a manager.  It wouldnt be until I made quota and the team I was given made quota that I could BECOME an assistant manager.  Obviously my resume was not chosen for the schooling or experience that it encompassed because it doesnt take too much talent or education to stand at a gas station and ask for money.  Needless to say, when Lonnie gave me the opportunity, as he put it, to come in and shadow one of his top people I did not show.  I refused to waste another minute of my time on this scam.  I was duped by Lonnie and this company twice now by their gross misrepresentation of their company, the positions they are filling and the ability they have to tip toe around compensation and benefits.

I have since been adequately employed.  Hourly rate with benefits.  I just warn people to be careful and do their research before interviewing with these on line companies.  Especially if you dont remember actually submitting a resume directly to the company.  Its my feeling they are just pulling resumes that are posted on certian job boards regardless of their content.

Texas Charity Events doesnt have a website.  No online presence.  No Twitter.  No Facebook.  Its as if they dont exist at all.  That should have been an eye opener for me.  I recommend to you, ask questions.  Make sure you are not walking into these commission based sales positions unless that is what you are really looking to do.  For me with a family and having the background I do, I should never have gone to this interview.  It was an extreme waste of my time.
