I purchased a TH Property home close to four years ago. The problems that arose after we move into the home were typical of new construction, nail pops, etc. Along with the "normal" problems with also ran into simple to fix problems like door trim that did fit, dry wall corners not taped, chipped toliet, bad tile job, holes in the flooring but we were thankful that they were mostly cosmetic.

I believe I am a smart person, I checked the BBB before purchasing our home and found no complaints against THP.

After moving in, I immediately emailing THP a punch list of all problems we found including more serious problems as with our master bath tub facets not reach into the tub, our basement floor which is lined with cracks over 1/4 inch to 1/2 wide, cracks in our siding and leaks from our front windows onto our bricks which was discoloring them. I received no response.

I emailed and called for six months with no answers. Finally I sent our list of problems certified mail. Six months past, still no answer. Finally after a year I received an apology letter stating that THP has "lost our information and did not know how to contact us."

I took days off of work to have THP come inspect the problems. This is when the bad stuff begins. THP sent a service representative that did not speak "very good English" and "did not feel comfortable speaking with women."

Then the repair crew came with their chaulk guns and chaulk the entire house. They chaulked and chaulked --- where molding didn't meet the floor, drywalk corners, floors, garage doors, door flashing, you name it they chaulked it. Next the nail pops, easy because I had used blue painter tape to mark all the pops. Wrong the service manager stated "I can't see them I don't fix them". He had the worst eye sight because he couldn't see one. The crew left and said they would finish (chaulking) another day.

The crew never came back and I complained to THP about the way the repairs were made and the poor manners of their employees.

I received a response stating that I was the only one who every complained and that I was just being a pain.

I decided to get the house re-inspected for peace of mind. Structually the house was sound. But we discovery that certain electrical outlets were not grounded, that the mold in our shower stall was caused by the improper fitting of the unit to the three walls among other things that most windows were not fitted correctly and that some of the nail never hit the joists in our basement but as I believed everything was fixable or replaceable.

I held out hope and gave THP a copy of the inspection which including much more but you get the idea.

THP pulled a very nasty trick after all this. They sent a plumber or I think he was a plumber who ripped out the plumbing fixtures in our master tub, ripped out a the tiles and left leaving our master tub with huge holes and smashed up plumbing. [I am going to try and email the picture]

Almost four years later and many nasty and stupid service people later, the tub still has the holes, my basement still has cracks and now THP is say "it all your fault because I was never available for repairs."

My story is not the worst I ever heard.

My neighbor's story is more important. Mold!!!!! THP forgot to put the dryer vent in. For years she called and asked/pleaded for THP to come andlook at the brown water leaking from the back of her house. Her entire back wall from the first floor to the second was covered with mushrooms and black mold. I have never seen anything so gross in my life.

Needless to say the entire family including two young children had been sick for years and continue to be sick because of the unseen mold.

THP's answer was to put blame on them and tell them that they were just after money.

Please be careful when buying a home, get it inspected before you move in. If the home builder give you a hard time about an inspection before settlement insist and don't back down. Change settlement days if the house is being finish days before you move in. Cover all your assets.

I hope someone can learn from my story. Be smart, my home building/buying saga is not over but if this story makes at least one person stop and think that all is not rosey in the house building industry then it was work every minute it took to write the story(without the profanity).

Remember THP is another builders who doesn't stand by its warranty and does not care one bit about its customers once you close the deal.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, its paid for!
