The Canyons Apartment homes The Canyons Cockroaches, Scorpians, Decietfulness, Robbery, terrible apartments Phoenix, Arizona
In the beginning, this place looked amazing. I had only heard horror stories about apartments but I thought if I rented someplace newer and paid a little more that I would avoid all that. I never would have thought that the canyons apartments would have COCKROACHES!
I had read reports about scorpions at the canyons but I figured I had a cat so if that were the case I would probably be okay. By the way I paid a $200 pet deposit for my well-behaved, old cat and an extra $30 a month just so she could live with me.
I spoke to Mary, the red-headed pointy-shoed manager in the front office when I was inquiring. She knew all the right things to say like "You're a student, you need a discount more than anybody" I got totally suckered in. A month later I was walking past the office and heard her say to a prospective tenent "Your a telemarketer, you deserve a discount more than anybody" guess she has a script she reads.
A few months went by and I thought everything was okay but then in July of 2012 I noticed a fat cockroach on the wall. I freaked out of course and had my boyfriend kill it and dispose of it. Right then and there I asked to be sprayed by burns. I was sprayed that wednesday but the problem stayed the same. I continued to see about 6-7 cocroaches a day crawling up the walls, on my bedroom ceiling, in my kitchen cupboards.
I have extreme allergies to certain bacterias so I have always had to clean every inch of my apartment with bleach water every other day. I work full time and I can't cook so I only keep water bottles in my fridge and sealed protien bars in the cabinet. And yet, I became infested by roaches in September of 2012. I spoke to one of my neighbors who said that he had been there for years and there have always been roaches but he is hardly ever home so it didnt matter to him.
I got sprayed 4 times, bug bombed twice, and even had bait put in the back of my appliances. My apartment had so much poison in it that I could no longer babysit my 8 month old nephew because I couldn't have him crawling on the floor with all the poison and they advised me to to mop.
I started staying with friends, relatives, hotels just so I didnt have to wake up and be afraid every morning and eventually break down in tears because my home was now a place of terror for me. I had to start on anti-depressants and anxiety medicine because the infestation was just taking over my life. I begge dthem to let me out of my leasde I even brought in a ziploc with over 30 dead roaches I had killed to prove how bad it was.
I got them to agree to have me stay in a furnished apartment for a week while they had a specialist come out and look at the problem. When I came home, surprise suprise I had roaches still. Rachel at the front office told me that it take sa while for them to go away and since they are at least trying, I have no right to break my lease and I have to stay there until my lease is up.
I politely asked for documentation that the problem was solved so that I could have it for my records. Rachel said that she could not do that for me. Which led me to believe that the problem was not infact fixed.
Cockroaches bring bacteria and odor that is so dangerous to the human body that I eventually started getting sick at night. I had washed and bleached everything that I own. It is currently October 17, my lease is up mid January. I'm praying that I can find some way to get out of there. Staying with friends can only go on so long. I've started to sleep in my car in the parking lot because I feel it's safer.
The staff at the canyons may have attempeted to help me, but wj=hen it didnt work, they told me I was on my own and wouldn't let me leave. I'd like Mary and Rachel to have to stay in my apartment for a night and THEN tell me that they've done all they can.
