For the last few weeks I have been called repeatedly by The CBE Group on behalf of Verizon Wireless.

In January 2006 I called Verizon Wireless and had my cellular number changed. I had the new number less than a month when I received a bill stating that I had sent approximately 940 picture messages.

At the time I was 36 years old. I am the single mother of an autistic child, who doesnt even know how to use a phone correctly. He had gone through a serious operation and was in a hospital bed for eight weeks, while these supposed charges took place. I obviously did not have the time or desire to take or send 940+ pictures.

When I tried to contact Verizon about the matter I was told I was not able to speak to a supervisor. I was also told, without it being looked into, that my child must have used my phone. My teenage autistic child can not even dial his own home phone number let alone take AND send pictures on a cellular phone. I told them I would be more than happy to pay for the charges that I was responsible for but would NOT pay for the error on their part. They told me if I did not pay for the charges that I would be charged the early cancellation fee of service. I clearly stated that I was not wishing to cancel my service, but only to have the problem resolved. I was not treated fairly by Verizon and now am being harassed DAILY by The CBE Group on my current cellular phone. Many months ago, I did explain the situation and I am STILL receiving calls. At this point I refuse to answer. This is getting out of hand.
I am an honest person and was willing to pay for any charges in which I truly owed, but being a single mother of a disabled child, have no extra money to throw around on someone elses error.
Has anyone else had a similar situation?
Thank you.

Dispute

#3Consumer Comment

Unfortunately, waiting years after the dispute makes it hard for anyone to dispute it.  However have several options, you could a) send a dispute letter (certified if you want) to CBE Group telling them why you're disputing.  You could include that you don't want calls to your number, b) keep on having them call you about the debt, or c) pay the debt off (perhaps with a settlement since you're disputing the charges).

What people don't understand is the collection agency is just doing its job, they were told to collect it, and since you didn't resolve your dispute with Verizon it gets sent to a debt collector.  They have supervisors you just have to keep on insisting to speak with one.  As well, Verizon has a corporate office that you can complain to.  Also there is the BBB, too.  So there are so many options that you can have the matter investigated, you just have to take time out of your day.

is with Verizon, NOT CBE. Verizon failed to comply with your complaint. CBE is only doing their job.
