Complaint Review: The Guest List

I first found out about this company after signing up as a mystery shopper at www.shoppingjobshere.com. This website claims not to conduct business with any companies that require you to pay additional money to join, but The Guest List definitely does.

I followed their link for two free plane tickets and signed up. I received notice soon after that I could get a reservation request form for the tickets by sending them $20 for shipping. I was hesitant to do so because I'm a poor graduate student, but ultimately I decided to go for it.

The email also included an additional offer for a $500 voucher for some thing where they automatically pay your rent for you if you send them an additional $20 for shipping. This definitely sounded like a crazy scam, so I didn't send them money, but I wanted to send the money for the plane tickets thing now because I was curious as to how there scam worked.

That was in September. Today I received my reservation request form (or RRF as they so cleverly refer to it) and I find out that in order to get my plane tickets I have to book a hotel through them that is selected by them and I have to stay a minimum of seven nights. Hmm.

I might send this thing in and see if they ever send me a quote since it doesn't cost any additional shipping, but I'll never actually book a vacation through them. I don't need to be out thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it, thanks.

As much as I'd love a trip to Spain I think I'll earn it on my own and not put my trust in a fake company. At least I'm only out 20 bucks. And you can save yourself that much if you stay away from The Guest List.
