I signed on with AARP Hartford car insurance for the first time in Feb 2013. I pay by the year and it was a $1,300 change for the first year to insure 2 cars with PLPD. Time came where I had to renew my policy and this is where things went sour. I had sold one of the cars in Dec 2013 and was quoted $997.00 for 1 year on the 1 car for my renewed insurance for a year, and paid in full. This was in Feb 2014.

In April 2014 I received an emailed bill for $387.00 due or my insurance would be canceled. I called and said there is a mistake because I had paid for one in full for 2014. I was told at that time the extra charge was for the second car. I explained that I had sold it in Dec 2013 and no longer carried insurance on it because I didn't own it. They checked the records and they had it sold as of Dec 2014. Got "Oh we are sorry" and told I should receive a refund on what I had pre paid for Dec 2013, Jan 2014, and Feb 2014. I was told that the bill would be canceled and I did not need to worry about it was all taken care of.

Here June rolls around I get a new bill for $312.00 as new adjusted balance due. This would make my insurance on PLDP 1,299.00 on 1 car for one year. When the year before for 2 cars it was 1,300.00 for 1 year with PLPD. When I called this time they said it was adjusted -$78.00 for the removal of one car from my policy and still owed $312.00. WTF. This pricing is with no points on my license and no claims in over 20 years of carrying insurance in my past.

Do Not Buy Into  this price gouging company! They are not a up front company with the AARP customers. They are charging Way more than other insurance companies and offer No savings as promised by AARP. They are over charging and have only what seems like an Unfair scaling in the pricing of a policy.

This is simply outrageous that I would pay $1.00 less for 1 car on a policy that had 2 cars the pervious year. Their excuse was you loose your multiple car discount, so you owe $312.00 to continue your insurance. WTF... I have contacted AARP and spoke with a supervisor about this and she agreed that this was a issue. They are now investigating it. If you have been cheated by the Hartford Insurance company thru AARP please call AARP and file a complaint.
