Here is the typical ad placed by The Hollywood Screen Compnay around the US:

We are looking for one hardFunctioning and pursuasive individual in your vicinity to supply our brand of entertainment to clients. You can expect to Get $4,000 to $5,000 on a Monthly basis, however you must be in good physical shape, and have proper transportation to qualify.

This is not a get rich quick scheme and will require a serious determined individual to succeed, so only serious people need apply. With area partners across the continent; this is a very lucrative business when run properly, so we screen who we work with very carefully.

To be considered you must be punctual, have great people and managerial abilities, and keep a clean professional Appearance. Our Customers pay a premium cost for our services, so we must deliver a premium product to reflect that.

First, Brandon will contact you by email:

It was great chatting with you today,  As I mentioned I can get Beth to generate an area agreement for you to look over so you see all the terms of this partnership in the Tampa, Florida market.  As for references; Feel free to check out any of these partners sites, I recommend calling them to get a better perspective of what to expect:

http://DesertHomeCinema.com

http://Vancitybigscreen.com

http://BostonBigScreen.com

Once you have gone over everything, and reached out to the partners, feel free to shoot me a email with a good time for that call and I will gladly set it up for you.

Cheers

Sounds great so far. Then Alex Larson will call you and answer all your questions.  You will then get an agreement with an address like this:

The Hollywood Screen Company Inc. A company incorporated under the laws of Canada, with its principal place of business at 350 7th Avenue SW – 29th Floor, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, T2P 3N9 Alberta Business Registration Number: 85282 9084 Here in represented by William Allen

Simple agreement. Seems fair. Now let me show you what I found out in part an email I wrote to Alex which he said he would forward to Wiliam.  next rporting of dozens of ads on craigslist in the very market they were 'holding' for me.

  1. Pulled the trade name report from the registry in Alberta ($20) and found; trade name of The Hollywood Screen Co (not a Corporation); and the legal entity 1968218 Alberta LTD both established 5/30/2016 (Alex said they have been in Calagray for 18 months) bu the way tht would make the agreement invalid and they have already misrepresented themselves - btw the registry said the registration number on the letter has no correlation with anything in Alberta.
  2. Which then led me to the listing for AstroArenaball.com and William Allen - which makes sense since both are inflatable products.  A business that has the same model as the screen company.  A business model that went no where from the calls I made.  Now individual companies have bought these and through their own marketing made it work.
  3. I’m OK with a virtual office located on the 29th floor but the lack of any other facility especially if there is a salesforce and a production/manufacturing component is odd.  No other address was ever offered.  Also I 'pinged' the email addresses for Alex and Brandon; Ontario and CA respectively.  In and of iteself not a big deal remote sales and operations are common
  4. The fact that I can find no review of any kind about any hollywood screen partner in North America or corporate entity in Alberta especially with 6 screens and 18 months under the company’s belt is not encouraging.
  5. All three references answered the phone “hello” none answered with their company name and in their markets they do not exist online (other than the page corporate has added) no Facebook, linkedIn, etc.  Further, Vancity guy said he'd been around 3 years and Boston guy said 6 months but he was on his thrid screen.
  6. By now there should be hundreds of pix online from all the events especially the corporate events which makes your company so appealing to work with.
  7. I cannot find either William Allen or yourself on Facebook or LInkedIn at least connected in any way to this screen business I would have thought a major networking effort would have been initiated given the corporate nature of the clients.
  8. Finally Alex claimed that they were a preferred vendor for GES (see logo on their site) so I called GES (btw a super helpful company) and asked that very question - they have no record of The Hollywood Screen Co, they are not  preferred vendor and in fact that have no preferred vandors who are that specific (screens & projectors only) they sub out to large Audio/Visual production companies.

Their model was a rel neat idea and I got caught up in it for a few days.

Be careful!

I fell for the Lux scam also. Paid them the whole $9800. Got some equipment and never heard from them again. Then I saw their website was shutdown and claiming that the company has ceased operations. I've tried multiple times trying to reach someone but can't. I'm all for teaming up with anyone and trying to get back something from these guys.

Luxair Entertainment

Hollywood screen has been reborn as Luxair Entertainment.  Odd since the new website references 'Hollywood screen'. Despite Hollywood's rebuttal to orginal post it looks a bit dodgy when they change their name so quickly.

Be careful, buyers!

Since I filed his report the company has contacted me (which is refreshing) and we discussed my report.  They were able to provide me with a Calgary-based client - a home builder - who has used them both for tradeshows as well as backyard movies.  This is the kind of reference that goes a long way to adding credibility to this opportunity.

The supporting material provided by the company did not meet my personal threshold for investment.  However, the addition of a client as part of the due diligence process should provide a level of comfort.

The other issues I mentioned in the original posting will have to remain 'unresolved' and I will leave it to each investor to do their own due diligence.

The Hollywood Screen Co. response

#9REBUTTAL Owner of company

Wed, August 17, 2016

The Hollywood Screen Co. wishes to refute the entirety of Mr. Kohler’s claims listed in the report below. Mr. Kohler was given the opportunity to speak with us regarding his concerns, and terminated any further conversations regarding his “findings.” We were more then willing to provide him with any and all documentation he required to answer his concerns. We thought it strange that he came to us wanting some simple questions answered and then refused our attempts to do so.

Upon doing our own research we’ve found Mr. Kohler is directly affiliated with a smaller competitor of ours in the state of Florida. This act of slander is completely unsubstantiated. All claims he has made are in an attempt to prevent our further expansion into the inflatable screen marketplace.

Our company has fully operational partners across North America, whom of which operate under their own unique registered trade names. We do not franchise, we simply give people the jobs, equipment, support and marketing they need to succeed in their own operating territory. The Hollywood Screen Co. takes pride in being transparent in regards to our history and business workings/dealings; gladly presenting interested clients or future partners with any information they so request.

Our primary concern when it comes to Mr. Kohler, is that his complaint is unfounded, and that if proper communication were provided on his behalf, he would find his “worries” need not exist. That said we understand these tactics are employed in business, and its a competitive marketplace, so sometimes people act desperately. We wish Mr. Kohler the best in his future endeavours, and hope he steers away from making fraudulent claims in the future.
