Hello,

I did not get ripped off persay, I was in the position in which I could of been taken advantage of if I did not do my research. Dr. Laureno saw me in the cafe and tried to convice me to attend his non-accredited instiution. My main question was could I transfer them to UCF or some college in Florida, he answered YES. I later did my research and acquired that the academy has only been up and running since 2006. They dont even have a website and arent accredited REGIONALLY on the EDU.GOV

Please people if this man comes to you please kindly turn the other cheek. If you would like to study anything in the medical field like Nursing Asst., Phelbotmy, Patient Care Tech, etc.. I would suggest one of OCPS tech schools, like orlando, westside, winter park, mid-florida tech. Where you can transfer your credits to Valencia or Seminole State, where I am currently attending for nursing. I finished the Nursing Assist. Program at Orlando Tech and it saved me 1 year of college course work.

EVERYONE AND ANYONE WHO READS THIS: In the state of Florida, Colleges and Universities must be Accredited regionally by the dept of education. There is the GORDON RULE which is a mandatory guideline for properly accredited colleges and universities. SO IF YOUR COLLEGE isnt honoring the gordon rule or isnt regionally accredited then they are Just a Dipolma Mill.http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/check this website out

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges -this is region accrediation

Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools - NOT a proper regionally accrediation.

My name is Dr. David Laureano, I am the President of the Lighthouse Medical Academy.  With ref: to the report which appears in your ripoffreport.com website I would like to rebut or clarify what is written about the Lighthouse Medical Academy.

We are licensed by the department of independent education in the State of Florida, The Board of Nursing and the National Healthcareer Asso. We are vendors for students aid with Workforce of cental Florida, Family Services with Orange County, Seminole County, Volusia County and Churches in the area.

All of our students that have completed their couse of study are working in the area they have chosen. When I spoke with this lady, I offered her to study with us for Medical Assistant, she wanted to study for LPN or RN, ......Our Academy is not Accedited for the LPN or the Nursing RN course of study.

I request this rebuttal would be in the same area as the accusation thank you.

a school does not have to be regionally accredited which is why they exist. Regional accredidation is neccessary if you want to transfer credits from one institution to another...someone taking a CNA or EKG course really truly has no need to do so--how a nurses aide program saved anyone a year in college coursework is beyond me since a CNA course may and I say MAY equal up to two 3 credit hour courses (its only a 6 week course). I mean you do not even have to attend a program to become a certified nurses aide since you can challenge the exam--so......

Regional accredidation may also play a part in financial aid and certification exams but may not inhhibit one from getting a job. Say you take a medical assistant course at a non-accredited school--you can apply for medical assistant jobs that do not require national certification but if they do require national certification that program has to be accredited by a body recognized by that profession (which may not may not include regional accredidation).

So to recap if you want to transfer credits then the school needs to be regionally accredited---if you just want the job training and to be able to site for whatever national certification test make sure that program is accredited by whatever accredidation body they call for (i.e. to sit for the NCLEX nurses certification test the program must be CCNE accredited or accredited by another body that I cant remember). Using my example, CCNE may require the program to be regionally accredited or may not.

PS I am not a student at the school but I have been in school and have taken enough courses around the nation to know the difference. BTW Gordon Rule has NOTHING to do with accredidation and everything to do with degree granting institutions--Vocational programs do not apply to Gordon Rule which is why if you ever attend a technical school or a program that does NOT award an AS degree or higher--you will not take communications courses (i.e. English, Speech, ect.)

Per UCF Website:

The Gordon Rule (State Rule 6A-10.30) applies to students who first enrolled in any college or university after October 1982. The rule requires students to complete four courses (twelve credit hours) of writing and to complete two courses (six credit hours) of mathematics at the level of college algebra or higher. Each course must be completed with a minimum grade of C- (1.75).

Lighthouse, Everest, Orlando Tech ect are NOT colleges or Universities
