I recently rescued my elderly father from some contracts with these crooks. An example of an attempted charge: nearly $2,000 just to replace the fabric seat pads on four dining room chairs.

Since the contracts were cancelled within Ontario's 10-day cooling off period, his deposits should have been refunded immediately. But the company threatened to sue him, claiming that he had waived his rights by initialing some sticker on the front of the contract. They backed down only when I made it very clear I'd be happy to expose them in court.

PLEASE NOTE: by law, your rights under the Consumer Protection Act (which include that cooling-off period) remain in force even if you agree to surrender them! Don't be bullied, and don't be intimidated!

I could go on, but my basic advice is to avoid these people at all costs. Please warn your moms and dads that the company solicits much of its business by intercepting people strolling through malls on weekdays in other words, they focus their efforts on seniors, trusting people who are easily befuddled by contract mumbo jumbo.
