When "The Neighborhood" first was offered in our area-the $59.95 local AND unlimited long distance was a great deal for us.
The first problem came about a month after having the service - THEY neglected to put our unit number on our bill - and the bill was never delivered. I sent a check for $75.15 on 10/03 and ANOTHER check for $75.15 on 10/10. Both checks cleared our bank within one week. Only ONE of the TWO checks were credited to our account. Then the phone calls started....a -computer- would call our home at 8:40 every evening...then after being on hold the computer would say they were too busy and would call back.

I called MCI and they said I owed them $75.15 plus the current charges. I had to get copies of our cancelled checks from the bank to prove to MCI they had our money. I faxed both sides of these two checks to them on 10/31, again on 11/06 as they "couldn't find my 10 page fax" again on 12/18.

The employees are rude, condescending and infer we are deadbeats because THEY cannot find what THEY did with our money. They know they have both checks, but until they figure out what they did with our money they will not credit our account. I try at least once a week to get this settled, send them what I rightfully owe them and be done with them. On 12/18 I spoke to one of their representatives who assured me it would be taken care of within the week and for me to call back on 12/26.

I called the 27th and it STILL is showing the missing $75.15 on our account. On each phone call I am transferred between financial and customer service and nothing is happening. If they didn't have my social security number I would forget it. One thing I can promise is a court fight if they dare to turn this in for collection. This is very frustrating and I have no clue how to get this resolved. It has been going on since October, 2002 and I am no closer to resolution than I was then.

Happy December 30th-I call for my weekly headache with MCI, and now my bill has grown by $8.00 They ask me to wait ANOTHER 30 days for them to research something, even though they have numerous copies of our cancelled checks. This is the worst example of business, customer service, follow up, etc. At least they weren't rude today.....not helpful either. Will try again mid-January. My advise - do NOT deal with The Neighborhood unless you want to spend hours on the phone with people who are either unable or unwilling to actually HELP a customer.
