I was working for a inbound marketing company. This company was taking inbound calls for a satellite service. The customer is supposed to call based on an advertisement on the internet. When the customer calls and says that they want to sign up, but wants to know if there is a commitment or contract, I am told based on the script to say no. A couple of weeks ago, I was blindsided by a customer that said that the advertisement on the web is totally different than what I was telling him. The customer directed me to the page that said One year purchase agreement.

However, that particular site of the webpage was blocked by a firewall and I could not access it. I went home and I checked the website. What the customer told me was true. So I printed out the page and I approached one of the supervisors the next day. This supervisor pulled up the webpage that was blocked to me and told me to ignore it. She told me to say under this promotion, there is no contract or purchase agreement. Later on, I received another phone call and again, a customer told me about the webpage. Again, I brought it up to management again only to be blown off.

Last week, a customer wanted a Latino entertainment package. The price on the webpage had two rates, one for $39.99 and another page for $34.99. The customer asked why the discrepancy in pricing. Again, I brought this up to a TSR lead and he claimed that he emailed the offending satellite company and according to the TSR lead, he never heard from him.

Today on September 25, 2004, I get a phone call from the supervisor saying that the offending satellite company is ending the contract for dedicated agents and therefore I have two choices, either take the layoff or start training. This company knew ahead of time that I was in the process of moving and approved me for the day off. Now all of a sudden, I cannot take the day off and now I am told that I have to attend training and reschedule my moving date, which I cannot do. I am also told that if I were to come back, I would have to come back at a lower salary.
