We also purchased a puppy from ThePuppyStore.ORG in Tampa Florida. We did not know about the $15 "Certified Pure Puppy Database" (PurePuppy.ORG) scam - Which we had known.

We also did a search on their domains for the owner using the WHO IS feature at DomainBank.com. This revealed that it's owned by the same two men "Phillip Arenas" and "Sean Anthony".

We also consulted SunBiz and discovered that their business name and physical store is merely a Ficticious Name.

We called them to report our dog being sick (it refuses to eat or drink, has CONSTANT diareahha, itching). They insisted we take our sick dog to THEIR vet. We declined and chose our own vet. The #1 reason was because their Vet examined and RELEASED the dog just 4 days prior to our purchase. However ...

Two days after buying our dog, our Vet found that:
1) The dog was FULL of fleas
2) It was dehydrated (needed 3 fluid-therapy injections to attempt rehydration)
3) It had an UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION (Vet put dog on antibiotics)
4) The dog is NOT 8 weeks old (weened off mother too early).
5) It was being fed the WRONG FOOD by the owners at ThePuppyStore.org. The store even gave us a bag of this WRONG, hard food. The Vet said the dog should be eating SOFT food at its VERY young age.

This store is being run by SCAMMERS and AMATUERS.

We're reporting them to the ASPCA, Humane Center of Florida and the Hillsborough County Animal Services group (813-744-5660) immediately.

The owners of The Puppy Store brought this report to my attention. While this online report itself is unrelated to my experience, or me, I wanted to post my own comments in respect of the owners.

Our recent purchase of 2 puppies from their store a few weeks ago ended up with two subsequent visits the vet the first week home. Both puppies were quite ill and needed urgent medical attention which they received from a nearby vet that we located. The puppies have since been on the road to recovery, but not without a considerable expense to us of time and finances.

Upon bringing this to the immediate attention of the owners, they initially requested that we visit their own vet. Unfortunately, that was not possible for us, due to several factors including distance and urgency. Post-treatment, we requested that the owners reimburse us for the bills and they complied despite the significant expense. We reciprocated their generosity by picking up $100 of the $398 total (between 2 invoices) and have since received the agreed refund.

All in all, we remain satisfied with the outcome; specifically the courtesy and care exemplified by the owners throughout the process. They clearly love their dogs, even after the sale is made.

In regard to our contacting Hillsborough County Animal Services (HCAS) at the beginning of this situation, we were seeking trustworthy advice about the best manner in which to pursue a refund of our vet bills.

At no time whatsoever did we request that HCAS make contact with the store and, in so doing, name us as accusers. To the contrary, we copied the HCAS group on specific conversations, to keep them apprised so that the best advice could be offered to us throughout the process. Once the refund was processed, we informed HCAS of the satisfactory conclusion. Why Angela from HCAS decided to disclose to the storeowners private information and-or include our name or conversations we had in private with her is yet to be answered. Our apologies go to the storeowners who have the unfortunate task of refuting this online report that clearly does not encompass all that took place.

If you're looking for a puppy, we recommend The Puppy Store in Tampa where you'll find great prices and even better service.

We did nothing wrong and everything right!

Paul has already admitted that he over reacted and that "it's all good". He even wrote a letter to the Animal Services stating that we were courteous through out the entire situation. The instant his wife called us we told her to bring her pups to our veterinarian. Her exact words were "the puppies were jumping around agian and they were going to wait it out as they observe the little guys some more". After that, Paul slandered us in every way possible which we find unjust. We have refunded Paul for his $298 vet bills the very same day he presented them to us. We had plans on refunding him since DAY ONE with proof via email. We did nothing short of helping him throughout the entire situation. Every email shows our concern for his little Mini Pinscher babies.

If anyone thinks we are making flase accusations I invite you to check with the BBB and see how many inncidents we had since 2004 (opening year).

This is the letter we have sent to Paul D.

Paul,

I tried to call you but you shut your cell phone off.

When you first talked to me your exact words were that "you should've talked everything out with us instead of getting all wrapped up in the situation". From day one we had plans on reimbursing you and we did.

Yes, we own the Certified Pure Puppy Database with thousands of dogs registered throughout the states. Are we not allowed to register dogs as there are plenty of other registration companies just like us. I think it is unjust to say "it's all good" on two separate occasions and then go modify your complaint with rip off reports after our last conversation. You put All About Chihuahuas on the list...what in the world did that business do to you? The Puppy Store hasn't done anything either. You sent us a copy of the letter you sent Angela at animal services telling her to "call the dogs off" as you said and then slander us on rip off report. We didn't charge you for the application, you didn't pay anything for it at all. I would've explained in detail that it is our own little kennel club in which you were invited into but was rushed so the gentlemen could buy the Chocolate Lab. Paul...What did we do? I think that was wrong...I really do being that the Certified Pure Puppy Database was established in 2004 and hasn't received a complaint against it yet. Could you explain yourself so we could try to get a better understanding....

NEVER buy a puppy from a petstore!

#8Consumer Comment

NEVER buy a puppy from a petstore! This ripoff report is a textbook illustration of what happens when you do. Petstores that sell live puppies are the retail outlets for the wholesale pet industry (puppymills). Puppies from these wholesalers are subjected to long journeys in tractor trailers while still too young to have received their final booster shots against parvo and other canine diseases with the obvious end result of disease. Many are infested with worms as well. A large number of these pups die en route or shortly upon arriving at their destination.

If you want to put this industry out of business, do not purchase a puppy or anything else from a petshop that sells puppies. Do not even go into such an establishment if you have a young puppy at home. There are many documented cases of people bringing home parvovirus on their shoes or via an item purchased.

Another way to curtail this cruel industry would be legislation prohibiting the transfer of puppies under the age of 6 mos to another location for (re)sale. If a market still existed for older puppies at least they could be fully innoculated at this age and thus stand a better chance of surviving the trip to the petstore.

BUY a puppy from a reputable show breeder or from a person who has bred their family pet and has home-raised puppies for sale. Both charge less and provide more (ie vaccinations, worming, AKC papers, proper socialization and early training). Most petstore puppies are registered with a sham registry because the required dna testing for AKC registration would reveal that these puppies are not purebred.
