SANTA CRUZ PICKLEBALL CLUB

The Santa Cruz Pickleball Club is a wonderful example of what is wrong with pickleball.

The hyperbole and promotion of pickleball is at all time high; just like that of the yo-yo, hula hoop, pet rock, disco, the electronic pet and any other fad to come down the pike in the last 75 years.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club presents the following myths that will be debunked.

Here are the myths: PickleBall is the fastest Growing Sport in the United States; that PickleBall is full of warm, caring, intelligent, honest, and community oriented people. They tout the benefits of pickle ball as being equal to those of swimming, walking, waters aerobics and other sports, especially in reference to seniors.

The easiest place to begin the debunking of these myths is to explore the honesty of the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club and PickleBall and their "mission to grow the sport".

You may, in any community in the United States, if you pay moderate attention to community development and resources, notice that your community has been inundated with pickleball lines on basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts and tennis courts at the least.

You may substitute "Santa Cruz" to "My Community" Pickleball club. They are all templates of the same organizational and development protocols established by the people that want to "grow the "sport" of pickleball” so they can make mountains of money.

This is what marketers did with the hula hoop, yo-yo, electronic pet and pet rock. The difference with pickleball is that it will chew up your community resources.

We thought long and hard about posting this on Ripoff Report. We know it cannot be altered or taken down. It is as FACT based as we can make it. The language is straightforward and not riddled with euphuism; they delete the potency of truth. We thought maybe it should be presented about pickle ball in general. We DO NOT know that all pickleball clubs act in the same manner as the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club.

Hopefully, after this is posted, the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club will change its mode of operations.

Dishonesty of the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club.

We will work from the present to the past

There was a County Wide Meeting at a County Agency for a Proposal from the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club.

The Santa Cruz Pickle ball club wants to remove tennis courts and take over the basketball at Brommer Street Park. The Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club already has over 30 public pickleball courts in Santa Cruz County. There ARE NOT 30 public tennis courts in Santa Cruz County.

The Santa Cruz Pickleball club is presenting UNTRUE misleading information at this meeting and to the community in other venues.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club state there are 33 usable public courts for tennis players within a 4-mile radius of Brommer Street Park. A complete lie. There ARE NOT 33 public tennis courts in ALL of Santa Cruz County.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club state that there are 70 courts in Santa Cruz County. Santa Cruz Pickleball Club Members quote Tennis Maps as their source. (See attached email)

In NO MANNER can there be construed to be 70 tennis courts in Santa Cruz County. Even tennis maps show this to be a lie.

People can make mistakes. These foregoing two statements are so off the map that no honest person could make these claims.

These two Statements were made at a County Meeting on May 18th at the Simpkins Family Center.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club did NOT NOTIFY COUNTY residents of their proposal to take out tennis courts or alter basketball courts. (See Attached Flyer) It is incumbent upon the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club to insure that the public is accurately informed and adequately notified about their proposed changes to a county facility.

There were very few basketball players and tennis players and other interested people at the meeting. The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club did not notify county residents of the meeting.

Prior to, and in discussion at the County meeting, the Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club presented to the County Residents that the county was going to put in additional tennis courts three miles from Brommer Park. This is not true.

The names of entities may be interchangeable with your community. The creators of pickleball make money from this protocol of growing pickleball.

The following is a cut and paste, verbatim, from the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club website in 2015. You will note at that time the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club is cancelling pickleball because of a lack of interest. It Is unedited in any manner.

Calendar
Pickleball cancelled Sat May 9th at Mike Fox Park
No more PB at Mike Fox Park on Sundays due to lack of interest.
No Pickleball on Sat Feb 28 or Sunday March 1
This is from the Santa Cruz PickleBall Calendar Page.

It was at this time, while this was posted on their website, that the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club was canceling events because of a LACK of Interest, The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club lobbied two city municipalities to give them pickleball courts.

These cities gave the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club 14 courts at the time they were canceling events. Why would these entities give a club that was canceling events 14 more pickleball courts if the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club informed them that pickle ball events were being canceled?

We included the flyer the Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club DID not post county wide. The flyer is misleading and did not note the removal of resources. Instead the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club posted it at ONE county tennis and basketball facility ONLY. It is incumbent upon the Santa Cruz PickleBall club to ensure that their proposal to the County is accurate and that the county residents are notified of a meeting to alter county resources.

No notification of the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club was posted broadly in the County.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club could not be straight forward enough with the community, to post this flyer at a tennis court roughly 2 miles away from the Brommer Street Park where they intend to remove a tennis court. This park has only one tennis court. Brommer Street picks up the overflow of tennis players and provides resources to people that cannot get on the court.

A Pickleball net can be set up and taken down in TWO MINUTES. At no time does the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club State this truth.

youtube.com/watch?v=OPIxM619WYs&feature=youtu.be&t=81

Ask the question: “Is the Santa Cruz County PickleBall Club honest and Straightforward”?

The only answer that can be honestly arrived at is NO: The Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club is not Honest or Straightforward.   At the least, they should have posted it in the Craig’s List sections of “activities” and “general community”. They did post one notice online only two days before the meeting which is insufficient. They should have “papered” the community in which the proposed changes are to be made. They did not do this. They should have “papered” every county facility. They did not do this.

Myth: Pickle Ball is the fastest growing “sport” in America.

You have to dig a bit deeper than Googling “PickleBall Fastest Growing Sport”. If you Google “Disc Golf Fastest Growing Sport” you find That Disc Golf is the fastest growing sport in America.

go to Wikipedia./en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_in_the_United_States

PickleBall is not listed as a sport in the United States. If you find PickleBall anywhere, in any discussion, in this article, let us know. Kickball and Bubble ball are noted; not pickleball.

Pickle ball is not listed in this study of the fastest growing sports in America.

You have to grant that the marketers of pball get the number and statistic manipulation game right.

If no one plays pball then the next year 100 people play pball; That is a 100 percent growth rate in one year.   Do that process five years in a row and you get “EXPLOSIVE” growth you can tout to any person that does not want to dig into “growth”, its curves, probabilities and expansion rates.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club gets a big Fat Lie and 100% dishonesty rating for saying that pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America

Myth:  Pickle Ball is the fastest growing sport among Seniors:

Golf Is the fastest growing sport among seniors.golfdigest.com/story/number-of-golfers-steady-more

This a very reasonable article and study on the growth of golf in the United States. The growth in Golf comes from seniors and millennials

There are 26 million golfers in the United States.statista.com/statistics/227420/number-of-golfers-usa/

Of people that play Golf, people between the ages of 50 to 70 years of age comprise 65 percent of those that play golf in the United States.

People between the ages of 40 to 49 comprise 22 percent of the people that play golf in the United States.

What happens when those people turn 50?

They add a huge statistical jump in the growth of golf among seniors.

tatisticbrain.com/golf-player-demographic-statistics/

PickleBall was invented in 1965.

The USA PickleBall Association states that there are 200,000 pickleball players in 2015. They do not factor seniors as a demographic.

Pickle ball has only added 200,000 pickle ball players in 50 years in the United States.

This is not “mind-bending exponential growth” and it will not be.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club has learned its lessons well.  When asked about how many members they have; they will tell you that “we are the fastest growing sport in America and among seniors”.

Until such time as there are 26 million pickleball players in the USA, it is inconceivable, and mathematically and statistically impossible for pickleball to be the fastest growing sport in America, or for seniors.

Is The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club honest when they present that pickleball if the fastest growing sport in America or among seniors?

NO.

Myth: Pickle Ball is healthy for the populace including seniors?

NO

Aerobic conditioning is a major component of health.

youtube.com/watch?v=VKVL-doWTLM

How do you get healthy standing in one spot? Three of these pickle ball players are at least ten pounds overweight. They will, in no manner, at no time, ever increase their aerobic capacity doing pickle ball in this manner.  Aerobic conditioning requires continued movement at a reasonable level.  One comment on this page is, “I started pickleball yesterday and I am as good as these guys”.  This is likely very true as The Santa Cruz Pickleball Club states that pickle ball has no learning curve. Very true. Ping Pong has a huge learning curve to even begin to do it halfway right or to compete in a ping pong league.

Here is a singles Pickleball Championship match.

youtube.com/watch?v=XM00oL51vFs

These are two ten to fifteen pounds overweight people at a National Finals Competition.

You will never find overweight people at any other “National Finals” event. Nowhere will you find people ten to fifteen-pound overweight people at a National Finals Event. Maybe Darts, that is about it.  Poker and chess, sure. If the sport requires health and aerobic conditioning, you will never find overweight people in the finals of a National event.

Some of the pickle ball players are lean as rails at other finals event.  THEY DO NOT RELY SOLELY UPON Pickle Ball for their conditioning and aerobic capacity unless they have been granted the best metabolisms in the world.

What about Seniors, The People who need PickleBall to get Healthy?

If you wear knee braces, you should be cautious playing pickleball.

You are still subject to the same, or similar torque, on knees, pelvis, shoulders, elbows and ankles as tennis in terms of skeletal and muscle issues.

Water aerobics, walking, cycling on a stationary or real bike, yoga at gyms, swimming, supervised weight lifting, dance classes (supervised for seniors) and Zumba, among many other aerobic and conditioning sports and exercise programs, will get you far healthier, far faster, than standing around playing pickleball.

The health benefits of all the foregoing presented alternatives to pickleball for health and aerobic conditioning are proven scientifically. Good luck finding one scientific study or experiment about the health benefits of pickle ball from the scientific community.

Pickleball will never build upper body strength.

What about flexibility?

Seniors should darn well work on their flexibility before they walk on a pickleball court. Ask your doctor. Better yet, ask your sports doctor if you should jump on a pickleball court without prior flexibility training as a senior? You already know what the sports physician’s recommendation to a senior will be. It will be NO.

Is The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club being straightforward and honest when they tout the health benefits of Pickleball to seniors? They get a 99% definite NO here. It is good to get sunshine, talk to people, and get out and move around.

Their actions and statements in this regard are without scientific data for MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC support for pickleball being advantageous for seniors.

Some of the information the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club tout to the public is that pickleball is beneficial to people because they do not have to do the “overhead serve motion of tennis”.

The Santa Cruz Pickle club gets a BIG FAT LIE and DISHONESTY rating for this whopper.

Watch pball players anywhere. They “slam overheads” with the same intensity and overhead motion of the tennis server during their matches. If you cannot “slam” with the overhead slam motion OF PICKLE BALLERS, you will lose each and every time you play pickle ball.

Here is the exact quote from that letter;

“Pickleball is less demanding on the body with no overhead serving sparing shoulders”.

The BS meter just broke the scale and itself on this whopper.

The dishonesty rating is at 100% on this information told to the public, by the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club, with this information they present.

They state that, in this letter, which will be included as an attachment, “Pickleball is less demanding on the body with no overhead serving sparing shoulders…..with less torque on the elbows using a lighter ball and short paddle.”

Discretely explores this issue:

#2 Weight. Weight is the most important factor when choosing a paddle. Pickleball paddles can range from 6 to 14 ounces. .pickleballcentral.com/Pickleball_Paddle_Guide_s/49.htm

Tennis rackets general weigh between 8.4 ounces to 14 ounces.

tennisexpress.com/category.cfm/tennis/tennis-racquets/weight/9.6_10

A can of refried beans and a cup of coffee both weigh more than the heaviest tennis racket that one can buy.

The issue of torques, in tennis and pickle ball, comes down to footwork, body positioning, technique, and force and speed of swing. Very few people play with tennis rackets heavier than 10 or 11 ounces at the recreational level.

A discrete analysis of the weight of a tennis racket versus the weight of a pickle ball shows that the weights are not that different. The difference of weight between a tennis racket and pickle ball racket is minimal on the effects on the body.  Especially for recreational tennis and recreational pickleball comparisons.

Many pickle ball rackets are right around 15 inches in length.  The average tennis racket is 28 inches in length.  That is a 13-inch difference.  That difference is minimal when considering factors related to stress on the body.

If you have a rotator cuff injury or tendonitis in wrists or elbows, playing pickle ball will still hurt your shoulder.

So will lifting a can a refried beans or a cup of coffee.

The information published by the Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club, and PickleBall, in general, is misleading and lacking scientific basis.

Here is a link to The Santa Cruz Pickleball Club home page on 4/22/16.

.santacruzpickleballclub.org/

You will note people basically standing in one spot, ergo not increasing aerobic conditioning.

You will also note the “vicious” torque placed upon the shoulder of the one lady literally “SLAMMING” over heads. Kudos to her. Job well done, point well played. So much for the myth about pickleball “not placing torque on shoulders”.

(This home page may be changed in the future.)

Myth: The Santa Cruz PickleBall club is full of caring, honest, intelligent, community oriented people:

They are caring, intelligent, honest and intelligent; as long as you do not want to discuss from, even a slight, the most minimal, the most thought out, the politest, moderately curious position about what is presented by them.  If one does this, they are met with scorn, open hostility, or a smarmy redirection away from a reasonable issue or concern.

To wit:

At the “community” meeting, the problems with a lack of notice by the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club was noted, a retired attorney, with a master’s degree and a history of educating college students (intelligent, highly and accurately verbal, and communicates in the most efficient manner) suggested that the county could consider a more in depth needs assessment that included broader notification of county residents.

Enter misdirection:

A person stood up, addressed the retired attorney, announced her profession to bolster her coming statement, and said “there might be more tennis players here than you believe”.

That statement has nothing to do with the statement that the county might consider a more in-depth needs assessment. Complete misdirection was accomplished.  The issue of an in-depth needs assessment was derailed and never again brought up in a meeting of which The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club did not announce, in any true manner, to county residents. The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club made sure that only about 5 county residents, not affiliated with their club, were in attendance at the meeting.

Do note that the retired attorney and college educator did not announce past professions to bolster opinions and suggestion. This person was most highly polite and conciliatory.

To Wit Hostility;

A person stood up and said he had played tennis, pickleball, and tennis at the park in question, said that he had set up a pickle ball net in five minutes, noted that there are 6 painted (not chalked courts) in a beautiful park 5 miles from the facility the meeting was about, said that sharing is good when facilities are minimal, and complimented the actions of the pickle ball community at another location. Absolutely nothing negative was said about pickle ball.

Enter Hostility:

A member of the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club stood up, announced emphatically (being kind and diplomatic) that there were 33 public tennis courts within 4 miles of the county facility being discussed, that there were 70 tennis courts in Santa Cruz County, and that the county was building another tennis court near the location being discussed, and turned angrily (truth wins out over diplomacy) and finished the rest of his “high powered and emotional” statement (back to diplomacy) glaring at the person who made very complimentary statements about pickleball players at another location.

All people in the room, The Santa Cruz PickleBall club included, knew that his statements about resources and new facilities were stunningly incorrect. NOT one person from the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club corrected the inaccurate statements.

Why?  Because it did not fit the narrative they want to convey. The Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club are aware of the inaccuracies presented by this one pickleball club member. Not one of them did a correction. “Not one” cannot be emphasized strongly enough. There were over 40 Santa Cruz PickleBall Club members at the meeting.

After the angry response (eff diplomacy) of the pickle ball club member, any sense of community problem solving and conflict resolution died an instantaneous death after the pickleball community was complimented by the previous speaker.

In the community county meeting, there were at least 15 adults that showed up with a pickleball paddle and a pickleball.  They loudly banged the ball against the paddle when a Santa Cruz PickleBall Club member said something which they agreed. This had the intended effect of stopping reasonable dialogue with the intimidation of numbers and loudness.

Myth destroyed. The Santa Cruz PickleBall club is absolutely not full of open, caring, community oriented people.  Unless you are part of the pickleball club.  The myth of their honesty has been addressed.

Many people have attempted to work in concert with the Santa Cruz Pickle ball club to no avail. It is believed that the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club has no intention of altering its methods to be community oriented. They have operated in an insular “take no prisoners” manner for well over two years. They do not interact with other community members in discussion about resources. They do not reach out to community members.  They will not alter their mode of operation unless a public report is made about their methods.

A Pickle ball net can be set up and taken down in TWO MINUTES. At no time does the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club State this truth.

Here is what they found on their website in 2015.

How do you work in concert with an organization that operates in this manner?

You cannot.

This i obviously not a real email address. The message to the public is clear.

Of the "25 pickleball courts" you cite for Santa Cruz County, not one is permanent. That means there is only an overlay on the court surface and a 23-lb net must be brought to the court and set up.
Additionally, of the single (1) tennis court that SCPC is asking to replace with four permanent pickleball courts, the County is ADDING a new tennis court at the Chanticleer park.
There are seventy (70) public use tennis courts in Santa Cruz County; that number does not include Cabrillo or UCSC courts, or courts in clubs or HOAs.
See you at the meeting...

Authors Comments: This is an unedited email received from a Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club member or coordinator.

You will note that there are 30 pickleball courts in Santa Cruz County, not 25.

The County is NOT Adding a new tennis court at Chanticleer Park.

There ARE NOT 70 public use tennis courts in all of Santa Cruz County. This is Wildly incorrect.

These two statement are indicative of the misinformation provided to the Public from the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club for their benefit.

A twenty-three-pound net is cited. That part is true.

A Pickle ball net can be set up and taken down in TWO MINUTES. At no time does the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club State this truth.

.youtube.com/watch?v=OPIxM619WYs&feature=youtu.be&t=81

Any person that cannot set up a 23-pound net with another person should not be playing pickleball.

You may view the number of tennis courts in Santa Cruz County here:

.tennismaps.com/index.asp?regionid=318

It is not understood how any person or organization can state that there are 70 tennis courts in the County of Santa Cruz not counting UCSC or Cabrillo College. (Or that there are 33 “public tennis courts within a 4-mile radius of Brommer Street park.)

Even tennis maps STATE that there are not 70 tennis courts in the county of Santa Cruz, INCLUDING UCSC, Cabrillo College, private clubs and HOAs.

Tennis Maps lists UCSC courts as PRIVATE.

Tennis Maps lists Cabrillo College as PRIVATE.

Tennis Maps is quite clear that there are not 33 public tennis courts within a 4-mile radius of Brommer Street Park.

This indicates, to be frank, that members of the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club will flat out lie to the public.

Pajaro Valley High School is noted on this map. Pajaro Valley High School LOCKS its court.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club gets an absolute lie rating for this information they present to the public.

Unedited Craig’s List Post:

Brommer Street Multi-Use

Players of Santa Cruz Pickleball need your help in promoting Pickleball at Brommer Park!

Come out the Community Meeting facilitated by Supervisor John Leopold re: the reconfiguration of Brommer Park court surface to a multi sport use facility.

The court surface has 1 permanent tennis court and 1 shared use tennis court with 2-1/2 court basketball hoops.

SCPB currently plays at Brommer Park with temporary nets. The amount of players have outgrown the current 6 temporary courts and are requesting Parks and Rec to reconfigure the surface to include..

1 multiuse tennis court and 4 permanent pickleball courts including nets and posts and 4 temporary pickleball courts on the multi use area including basketball.

Don't be fooled by false propaganda! Santa Cruz Pickleball has zero permanent pickleball courts in the county. Tennis players don't have to bring out a portable net to play their sport. Basketball players don't have to roll out a basketball hoop. Soccer player don't bring out nets, softball doesn't bring out the backstop.

There are currently 33 available tennis courts in a 4 mile radius of Brommer Park. We are asking for what is fair. 1 tennis court to be converted. Especially in light of 1 more new tennis ct. @ Chanticleer Park.

Author’s Comments:  This was downloaded from Craig’s List two days before the County Meeting;

IT IS UNEDITED:

You will note that the author of this post states “Don’t be fooled by false propaganda”. Any thoughtful attempt at discussion is labeled “false propaganda”.

This is exactly how the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club deals with all attempts at open discussion with The Santa Cruz Community.

There ARE NOT “33 available” PUBLIC tennis courts anywhere near Brommer Street Park. This is a blatant lie and misleading statement.

There will NOT BE new tennis courts at Chanticleer Park.

There are no more than 150 to 200 pickle ballers in Santa Cruz County. They have 30 courts available in Santa Cruz County.

You will note how this Craig’s List post point does not communicate this fact and truth.  They have not outgrown county facilities available to them.

You will also note this post does not tell people opposed to changes, where the meeting is at, the time and date of the meeting and contact information relevant to the meeting.

You will note that this post does not ask for input from the community.

This post was locked so that the public could not respond to it.

This post by the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club lies, misdirects and evades the truth of issues when communicating with the community.

Pickleball nets can be set up in TWO MINUTES. “ZERO PERMANENT” courts are A NON-FACTOR. Unless the Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Club wants to mislead the community.  Which they do.

You will note that it does not comment upon basketball.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club is Dishonest and manipulative when dealing with the Public.

Santa Cruz PickleBall Club Lies Cannot be Mitigated

#5Author of original report

Fri, May 13, 2016

THE SANTA CRUZ PICKLEBALL CLUB LIES CANNOT BE MITIGATED:

We would like to briefly respond to a comment that has been placed here.

As is usually the case, when one provides accurate information, about a person, or organization, engaged in malfeasant or suspect activity, in this case the Santa Cruz PickleBall club, and people attempt to diminish the truth of a report, information attempting to discredit the author (s) is often presented.

Our assessment is that other people have found there to be problems with pickleball in general; or they have direct experience with the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club which they found distasteful.  We are not the only people aware of this report.

That some person, or people, attempt to bring issues to light, about pickle ball in general, or the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club specifically, by providing a link to this report, is a good thing. That person is acting in accord with his or her belief system and understanding of ethics and honesty pertinent to them as an individual.

The main issue, when evaluating this report, is do the facts add up and come to a reasonable conclusion; and is there a proper evidence presented upon which a conclusion is based.

This report could have been written by a person with major psychiatric concerns and issues related to delusional process.  This report could have been written by a 12-year-old child. This report could have been written by a deaf person, a blind person, or a paraplegic.

Who wrote the report does NOT MATTER.

(DO UNDERSTAND, we diminish no person in foregoing paragraph IN ANY MANNER. Psychiatric concerns, blindness, deafness and paraplegia are sad realities with which some people are, unfortunately, afflicted. They are NO LAUGHING matter.)

What matters is the facts here support the conclusions that have been made about the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club.

Cheers to the author of the comment.  Media Matters is not a cup of tea from which we drink. Comments you posted here are not ours.  The nice thing about Ripoff Reports is that you, and others, are free to post rebuttals or comment as you did.

There is a community of people that do not feel good about The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club for the many reasons posted here.

 And:

simply google "pickleball ripoff" it will set you straight about the health benefits of pickleball of which there are none.

 And:

if you think pickleball will increase aerobic capacity, health and heart issues you are dreaming: google "pickleball ripoff". No scientific proven data that pickleball does any good for health.

The Santa Cruz Pickle Ball Whoppers Continue.

This is an exact UNEDITED letter the PickleBall Club is asking its members to send to the County Supervisors.  The only change to this letter is to highlight the lies the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club wants its members to tell County Supervisors. This letter was downloaded from their site on 4-26-2016.

BEGIN LETTER:

Date:

County of Santa Cruz

Attention: Supervisor Leopold

701 Ocean Street, Room 500

Santa Cruz, CA 95060

Re: Brommer Street Park pickleball enhancement

Dear Supervisor………………,

I am writing this letter as a resident of Santa Cruz County requesting that you consider enhancing the Brommer Street Park courts with the addition of 4 permanent and 4 non-permanent Pickleball courts.

As a former tennis player of ___ years, I am excited at the prospect of having permanent pickleball courts added to Brommer Street Park to make Brommer Street Park truly multi-purpose. ……….Pickleball is less demanding on the body with no overhead serving sparing shoulders, less impactful on the knees with less court to cover and with less torque on the elbows using a lighter ball and short paddle. ………..The learning curve to play the game is also much less than tennis making it more user-friendly to newbies.

I am delighted to return to an active life-style with this alternative court sport as I advance in age. I realize why pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in people over 50. I urge you to support Santa Cruz Pickleball Club in their efforts to improve our community park.

Thank you for consideration,

END LETTER:

The issues of torque on the body, shoulders and elbows have already been addressed in the report.

However, an internet search of “pickleball elbow” returns at least 100 articles on how to deal with “pickleball elbow”.

Included as attachments are images of pickleball elbow and health aides to help people prevent pickleball elbow and to play pickleball with pickleball elbow.

Euphemisms are for people that want to lie about lying or sugar coat the truth.

As Noted in the report, PickleBall is NOT THE FASTEST GROWING SPORT in America or among seniors.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club continues its lies to the community.

The easiest is for you to click on the link included here.

http://www.santacruzpickleballclub.org/#!brommer-park/v5ed2

You will notice a picture (attached) of a person in a nurse hat with the “balloon” caption:

“My heart is healthy because I play Pickle Ball”.

As noted in this report, there are NO PROVEN (scientific or medical exploration) of ANY health benefits derived from pickle ball.

There is a picture (attached) of a man holding a pickleball paddle with a balloon caption which reads:

“All we want is 1 pickleball court. YOU HAVE 33 TENNIS COURTS”.

There is documentation that there are NOT 33 PUBLIC TENNIS COURTS IN ALL OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY.

There is a picture of a baby with the balloon caption which reads:

“Please get a pickleball court BEFORE I die”.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club already has 30 pickleball courts in the County of Santa Cruz. This fact is presented and garnered from THE SANTA CRUZ PICKLEBALL CLUB WEBSITE.

They have at least two painted pickleball courts at this time (attached).

Letters, July 13, 2015: Pickleball courts an asset to the community

Pickleball courts an asset to the community

I would like to thank and commend Santa Cruz for providing state of the art Pickleball Courts at Derby Park. The City Council and Parks and Recreation Department have provided a safe facility to ensure the health and well being of the community. These facilities will be well used by countless people. The surface and lining of the courts are fabulous. Thanks to all involved. Thanks to the City Council for listening to the requests of the community and taking action. If you are not familiar with Pickleball, come give it a try. Look up Santa Cruz PickleBall Club for more information. Thanks again.

http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/article/NE/20150712/LOCAL1/150719903

As PROVEN, the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club has 6 Permanent Painted courts which are “FABULOUS”.

Also note Ms. Jennings lives in Aptos, Ca. She has no trouble getting to The FABULOUS PERMANENT Derby Park PickleBall Facilities in the City of Santa Cruz.

Despite the Fact That the Santa Cruz PickleBall Club has 30 PickleBall Courts, they LIE to the Community and state they do not have even one.

At NO POINT does the Santa Cruz PickleBall club inform the community that it takes TWO MINUTES to set up a pickleball net and ONE MINUTE to take a pickleball net down.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPIxM619WYs&feature=youtu.be&t=81

The reason we noted these recent changes to the pickleball website is that we wanted to be sure that they did not post that it takes only two minutes to set up a pickleball net and one minute to take one down. We want to be accurate.

The information about the time it takes to set up a pickleball net and take one down is not posted anywhere.

This information does not fit the narrative about their needing permanent pickleball nets.

So, they hide this information and do not present truth to the community.

The information contained here indicates that they have permanent pickle ball courts at this time.

The Santa Cruz PickleBall Club is VERY deceitful.
