I performed mortgage service property inspections for this company.  Everyone extremely nice in beginning. I was promised by Nate Lowen, the owner, I would be paid for all inspections no matter what.  My reports were held in their office in so-called "QA" till they became "late", therefore causing the no-pay status.  Even loss drafts that had an appointment and I kept that appt. and uploaded to them before midnight were labelled as late.

I was instructed to turn off the date stamp on my camera, which is a severe liability issue for the mortgage co.  I was issued 189 inspections in one day and expected to be done in 3 days, 120 of those already late when assigned to me, but was instructed to inspect anyway.  Dropped my usual route to inspect in Sellersburg, IN and everyone of those ended up being no-pay, considered late.  On last day of work for them, was expected to drive 37 miles across town for one inspection, back to the other side of town, for appts. that were all of a sudden made my them, not me.

I refused.  All the inspections I had on my route for that day disappeared from my QUE.  I had no inspections.  Now, they will not pay me for December, saying I have to wait to see how much they are losing by me quitting and whatever is left over I will get.  They also used my photos for training without my permission.  Would have been OK if I was paid for that inspection, but I was not.  That is violating Federal Copyright Laws.

Although I took pictures for them, they belong to me until I am paid for them.   Also, they do not have back up cash in their bank.  They cannot pay inspectors till they get paid.  Nate pays with personal checks from his personal account, not business account.  He quit answering the phone after I confronted him about wrong pay amount in December.  Have plans to see through to the end or shut their business down.  Ready to file a lawsuit in Indianapolos and this Paralegal will win her case.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, April 16, 2013

My husband was employed through Sarlow, I worked with him on inspections , handled the information intake , spoke with the director of human resources as well as communicated with many of the office workers. My husband terminated his employment with Sarlow in November for many reasons ~ primary ones lack of communication and late pay or in the case of exceptional circumstances , no pay.

The contract was to pay exceptional circumstances in instances of excessive miles for few inspections or as you stated one inspection. That pay was NEVER received despite multiple assurances from Nate Lowen that it would be. Emails were never replied to. As you stated, in the beginning, yes they are all nice and very helpful. Very responsive, great company to work for and work was enjoyable.

After month 2 , forget it. Every month the pay gets pushed back - every month you have to email , call, beg for your pay. When my husband terminated his employment , I had to email a request for payment multiple times and finally received our last pay when I asked whom did I need to contact, Sarlow or the customers we did the work for. I suggest you do the same as it is very much a burden to foot the gas and travel expenses.

The only office employee that remained helpful and would answer the phone was Jodi. She is the only one who was genuinely helpful and responsive. Had it not been for the ill treatment and late pay, we would have remained working for this company. Their treatment made staying out of the question. I wish you luck on your pay. Sign me so glad we never picked up the Louisville route as Rachel had requested us to many many times.
