Complaint Review: The Value Place

The Value Place in Wilmington, NC used my CC information for two extra weeks in 2014, using authorization that was over a year old Wilmington North Carolina

The Value Place on Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC, charged two weeks on my CC without proper authorization. In August, 2013, we gave our CC information to The Value Place for a one-week stay for a relative. After the first week, The Value Place called and asked us to fill out an authorization form for another week and we agreed to pay for one more week. When my husband called The Value Place this Sept, 2014, for one week there, they told him they could not take his CC info over the phone but mine was on file and so they mutually agreed to use my CC info. They did not explain to my husband that they also had an old authorization form on file, plus my husband clearly made the reservation for only one week. Our complaint is that they used my authorization information from 2013 this year for two additional weeks, i.e., they used last year's authorization forms without any notification to us, and I only found out about the $699.10 charge for the extra two weeks when I saw my CC statement, at which point I told them to remove permanently all my information from their system. We think they would have continued this indefinitely! I was amazed that they used an authorization form from 2013 by simply knocking on the room door and asking, "Are you staying another week?"

After I complained to the BBB, the Value Place general manager called and agreed to reimburse me for one week and offered a free week there.  It was worth it to persist until I got results.
