The Zaken Co fraudulent ripoff business victimized friend for $498.00 Granada Hills California
I have Power of Attorney for my ill friend who purchased a "Directory" from Zaken. He wanted the "Directory" returned as he was ill and in hospital. Zaken withdrew funds in the amount of $498.00 on August 14, 2002.
He purchased the "Directory" which appeared to me to be only about 4 pages of addresses in the Zaken envelope. My friend paid a whopping $498.00 for this so-called information!
On August 26, 2002 I contacted Zaken and a operator told me to return the unopened Zaken envelope for a full refund, which I did.
Today September 9, 2002 I contacted Zaken for an update but this time connected with a very rude operator who told me she worked in the refund department, but there are NO refunds for their "Directory". I informed her that I was told something different. I asked her if they were going to "keep my friends "Directory" and also his $498.00 and she said YES! I demanded to speak to her supervisor. So far the supervisor is still out for lunch?!?
I asked the operator if my friend had sent 1 Million I bet Zaken would keep that and his material also and she said "Oh sure I would keep it". This pretty much proves the attitude of this so-called company. Anyone with sense would know that information that is free on the Internet is not worth $498.00! I believe a class-action suit is in order.

John,
Your friend has a good chance of getting his money back through an ACH Fraud complaint with your bank--go tomorrow. You only have 30 to 60 days but they may make an exception for your friend because he's ill.
You have nothing to lose!

If you do not get a refund soon I would suggetest writing to the attorney general of California. I have provided the address below.
I would also contacting your local media such as a television consumer advocate program or you local newspaper. Also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
I have sent Zaken several letters requesting a refund because they never sold anything I found. I encourage anyone and everyone who has been taken by this company to write a formal complaint against Zaken and send it to both the attorney generals of California where they are now and New York City and the federal trade commission. I received a response from Attorney Generals office that was encouranging that they will contact Zaken and they will keep my complaint on file to use as evidence against them if they have to take legal action. I'm sure if they receive more complaints from people they will make this a priority. I encourage all of you to write to:
Bill Lockyer
Attorney General
State of California
Department of Justice
P.O.Box 944255
Sacramento, CA 94244-2550
For New York
You can file a complaint on the attorney generals of New York website.
Also write a letter the editor or advertising manager of any magazine you see their ads being run in. If you get those post cards for business opportunities in the mail write a letter them warning them about this company.
Make sure to emphasize that now that they know about these crooks they have a responsibiltie to protect their own credibility and their readers from these crooks.
It will take number of different people to get a response. I encourge all of you to write to these sources. If you want to get your refunds you need to get California to take legal action.
Good Luck
