Thomas Murt is currently a Republican member of The PA House. Recently Thomas Murt has decided to play politics by proposing changes into the child labor law, based on Testimony from Kevin Kreider, and Jodi Kreider who have an agenda to smear and discredit Kate Gosselin simply because she would now allow The Kreiders on her reality show anymore according to most reports on the internet.
Thomas Murt is doing no fact checking whatsoever on the credibility of The Krediers in my opinion, that have resulted in smear campaigns against people, and their businesses all while taking in his 15 minutes of fame. That's like allowing Ted Bundy to write reform on Homicide Law.
Thomas Murt does not care about this state, and while he may be a war hero in Iraq, just remember Benedict Arnold was a war hero to, so just think about that!

While some aspects of house bill 2515 seem nice, it is how the bill is being sold that is wrong. The bill was framed based on lies and gossip told by people who have an axe to grind with a specific individual. It is unconstitutional to pass laws that target a specific individual which is what house bill 2515 can be constructed as.
Bottom line is if you want to change a specific law, that's fine, however use facts to justify it, not half-truths out of tabloid magazines where they headline articles such as bat boy, or the 1,000 pound man who eats his own body fat to survive, or the half man half cow being. Laws should be passed because there is a legit case of justification, not because somebody has a family feud that wishes to drag it into our elected house of representatives.

I am not a fan of reality shows, and I think it is particularly disgusting that people like the Gosselins and Octomom use the media as a venue to support their families. However, I try to keep an open mind so I researched this bill by Representative Murt and found that it's actually pretty liberal. According to his press statement, the bill includes the following provisions:
- Require
all minors to have a work permit issued by the state Department of
Labor and Industry to ensure all adequate provisions have been made for
the minors educational instruction, supervision, health and welfare.
- Restrict
minors to work between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. and set
guidelines for amount of hours for work, recreation, school work, and
activities per work day.
- Require
the presence of a set teacher on the set of any production. This
person will serve as an advocate for the minor to ensure the minors
health, education, and moral safety on the set. In addition, this
person will monitor the working conditions, the minors mental health,
and the demands placed on the minor to ensure they are appropriate to
the minors age, strength, and stamina.
- Require
that 15 percent of a minors gross earnings be set aside by the
employer in a trust for the minor. At least one parent or legal
guardian shall be trustee of these funds unless otherwise determined by
a court.
I think these are fair and reasonable provisions. If it were up to me, I'd make sure that the fourth bullet, regarding gross earnings, be overseen by a third party who acts as the child's advocate. But then again, what's to stop the parents from reporting all the earnings as theirs, instead of the child's? Since Kate wouldn't have a show without the kids, it seems reasonable to expect that any earnings be divided equally among all the children and Kate, with the children's earnings being overseen by someone outside the family who does not any motive of financial gain.
