It appears CAMCO has sold its accounts to Thorne, Brooks & Shapiro. They have a "legitimate" looking website posting exactly how they start out in collection attempts by a first communication meant to cause immediate panic in people. This communication attempts to collect debts more than 10 years old, written off and charged off. Their letter threatens to garnish wages, ruin credit, put liens on properties and "attach bank accounts" if receiver does not respond within 2 days from the date letter is received. I contacted an attorney and this is ILLEGAL since debts are out of statute of limitations. Also filed report with FTC.

Thorne Brooks & Shaprio 'vindicated'

#3UPDATE Employee

Thorne, Brooks & Shapiro works exclusively with commercial firms and businesses. We handle national and international commercial claims. From this date to 2004 and every day in between, our conglomerate has a clean history with the FTC and attorney general, in all 50 states and known governing authorities abroad.

We appreciate the author mentioning our website www.tbscorp.net which also states "…we service the business community.” In light of these verifiable facts, we can not respond to a circumstance that could not possibly exist as we do not inter-transact with consumers, but if an organization, company or business owes our client, we may use whatever means necessary including legal to protect our clients interest, and that’s no rip off.

You should also send the information you have to the Florida Attorney General's office and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office. For good measure you might want to cc everything to your local District Attorney's office.
