My husband and I first went into Thorobred Chevrolet on September 14th 2007. We were interested in a car they had for sale in their ad. When we got there we were informed that we wouldn't want to see that car. They had other cars that would fit our needs better. We were then introduced to Kevin who was brand new there for our sales person.

So they showed us a 2006 nissan sentra. We did end up liking this. Well after we did the numbers, they informed us that we couldn't ge into that car because it was sold. They said that they had another one like it. We liked it as well. Then they told us that we couldnt get into that car due to financing issues and showed us a 2006 ford focus.

My husband isn't a huge fan of fords, but we did need a car for him to get back and forth to work in. I needed our first car to be able to run our children (8 yrs and 10 mos) around to doctors appts and school. Both of our children are disabled. So we looked at it, stayed at the dealership for HOURS and finally we agreed and signed paperwork. We gave them 1000 dollars for down payment and off we went with the car.

We then were contacted for the re-sign. Since when we left there on the 14th they hadn't yet got us financed, they said it wouldn't be a problem. We don't have perfect credit due to a bankruptcy, but they said it could be done. So the 27th we went back in for the re-sign the deal had changed for the new bank to finance us. So we signed it even though we weren't going to get gap coverage or the alarm we wanted on the vehicle. We signed it. So our payments are supposed to be starting on 11/11/07.

So my husband's temp plate expired on 10/30/2007, so I called in to let the dealership know and see when to expect our plates. Plus, I needed the banks information to where I was sending the payment too. Plus I changed my insurance company so needed this information for this change.

Holly, the finance person in charge of our account tells me that she is really busy and will have someone get back to me in just a few moments. Well I never got a call back. So I called on 11/02/07 and left a message that I was not very happy that no one gave me a call back. So around 630pm Holly called me back and began to tell me what is going on.

She explained that her manager told her not to call me back until they could get the situation taken care of. Apparently, the company that approved us decided for what ever reason not to approve us after we signed the contract on 9/27/07. So for over a month we have been lied too, deceived, and frauded. So I explained to Holly that I am not happy with the new terms because the interest rate went up 2 % (which is bull because I talked to the new bank and they said it was only 18 % not 20% like thorobred is telling us, so they are trying to make more money on the deal) they payment went up and everything changed! I said fine, I will bring the car back and get my 1000 dollars back! She said, well less the money for mileage! I was like NO way! You are the ones that screwed me on this deal, didnt tell me the minute you found out about this, sat on it for almost 3 weeks, and now expect me to have to pay for the mileage the car was driven. My husband drives almost 70 miles a day round trip for work.

I have a contract I signed over a month ago! Doesn't contracts mean anything in Arizona?? I know they do where I came here from! So then the finance manager of some sort Mark G. called me back. I explained to him WHY I am sooo mad! He said he would talk to Holly and everyone else about this and get back to me.

So about 30 minutes later the phone rings and it is a different Mark. Mark S. calls me back and he was VERY Rude! For their company doing the shady business and frauding people you would think he would be nicer. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB, I plan on contacting the Attorney General, my lawyer and a news station if I need too. This kind of business is just WRONG! Plus, they ran our name thru hundreds of banks so they have destroyed what credit we did have. We are almost forced to just sign the new deal and take the car because I don't know if we can get financed anywhere else!

Walk, Walk, Walk

#2Consumer Suggestion

As soon as the dealer pulled the bait and switch offering you the Sentra vice what you went in for you should have bid them good day. This was compounded by telling you that the first Sentra was sold. This was another reason to walk. Letting you drive away without financing and then calling you back weeks later and telling you that the bank disapproved you is against the law in many states. Check with an attorney in Chandler and see if it is against the law in Arizona. I read lots of these reports where potential buyers subject themselves to hours of "negotiation" and then leave with a contract that they read at home and discover that it does not reflect what the salesman said. If I can't work a deal in an hour or less I leave. Normally I get the facts over the phone. If a dealership is evasive about price or availability I don't bother with them. Why people take this abuse voluntarily is beyond me. Do they feel that their credit is so poor that they are grateful to the dealership for selling them any car at all? If you have a job arrange your financing in advance next time or pay cash for a car that you can afford -preferably a used Civic or Sentra or something that has a good reliability record - and look for it from a private owner who has service records and a history of the car.
