After loosing everything in a home fire last year, I purchased 2 Toshiba 55" LCD 1080 P flat screen televisions.

After 8 weeks I noticed that the picture would fade in and out. I turned the auto light censer to off and it didn't fix the problem. I contacted the co. I purchased it from, they came out looked at the problem and took the tv.

The authorized repair shop ordered the parts and they were told the parts were on indefinite back order. After having the tv for 5 months, I called Toshiba myself to see if I could get anywhere. They told me that it didn't matter if the repair shop had the tv for 1 day or 3 years waiting on the parts, they ( Toshiba) would not extend the 12 month warranty. They offered to send me a refurbished tv with a 1 year warranty. I declined that, telling them that, I didn't want a tv that had already had problems, in exchange for one that I had in my home for less than 3 months. They offered to refund my money, but, not until I met their requirements.

I had to fax them a copy of my receipt, and the receipt had to show the date, time, serial number, model number, My name address and phone number (if you purchase it from a retail store that information is not on the receipt. After receiving that, they sent a truck to pick it up and they had to wait 2 weeks after they had conformation that it was in their warehouse,to send the paperwork to headquarters for them to cut me a refund check.

After the check arrived they had depreciated the tv for 8 months, even though I only had it in my home less than 3 months. They did cut a second check. From the day the tv was picked up until I had both checks was 6 and a half months.

That should be enough right. No not so. In the mean time the 2nd 55" tv started with the same issue It was here for 8 months. Again it was picked up and taken to a authorized repair shop. It was there 18 weeks. It was brought back to my home, hooked up and had a new problem. They took the tv back (it was here less the 20 minutes) This was in Oct. of this year 2012. I called Toshiba today to see what They were going to do.

I was told that the tv had been out of warranty for 4 months, and even though it has been at their repair shop, there was nothing that they would or could do.

I asked to speak with this ladies supervisor, I was told that she herself was a case manager and even though she had a supervisor, They did not take calls. She started getting very rude, then told me if I didn't like her answer, then "you can just hang up and call back, hopefully I won't get you again"

This is a busy shopping time of the year. If you are still looking to purchase a tv of this size, don't go with a Toshiba.
