TigerDirect And Onrebate.com Rebate Scam The rebate check bounced and now I'm out $70! Miami Florida
I purchased a Maxtor 300 GB SATA HD from TigerDirect in October 2005. I submitted the required submission for the $45 rebate to Onrebate.com and received a confirmation.
The $45 rebate check came in December 2005.
I cashed the check.
In January 2006 my bank returned the rebate check charging my account $25 as they were unable to locate the Onrebate.com account and then debiting my account $45.
The rebate check bounced and now I'm out $70!
My calls and emails to both TigerDirect and Onrebate.com go unanswered.
Incidently TigerDirect's logo appears on the Onrebate.com webpage.
I believe these two companies are connected and the rebate program is a major scam.
Needless to say I won't do business with TigerDirect again. Further, if any rebate by any manufacturer is connected to Onrebate.com I won't buy the product!
I have reported this deceptive practice in a formal complaint to the U. S. Federal Trade Commission and urge anyone else with a similar complaint to do the same.

Also file a complaint with your state's attorney general's office.

On 1/26/06 Onrebate.com posted a rebuttal stating that they apologized 'if' the check bounced and to Fax my bank statement to:
Att: Nadina at 1-888-426-9467 and they would re-issue the rebate check and credit the fee back to me.
On 1/30/06 I did just that.
The following day I rececieved a telephone call from "Nadina" asking if I faxed the information she requested.
I told her that I had.
She then stated that Onrebate.com would immediately send me a new rebate check for the $45 and TigerDirect would issue a credit to my credit card account for the $25 bank fee.
Well it's been 3 weeks and I'm still waiting for both the check and the credit!
