I purchased four computer items from Tigerdirect on 11/23/06 and submitted four rebate application forms with all required information, and within the required timeline. I got three rebate payments, but the last one is never received. An approval email on 1/12/2007 (below) indicates that the payment would be mailed out on 2/11/07. I have written four emails (no response to these emails), 2 phone calls to the rebate center, but still no check recevied. I was very upset about this issue. I have already spent way too much time trying to get it resolved. I hope anyone who wants to do business with Tigerdirect or Onrebate.com could see all these negative reports and never, ever deals with the companies again.

By the way, Onrebate.com should change its name to Norebate.com.

Below is the approval email I got on 1/12/2007 but no check is received yet.

I guess you didn't know this.....

...but onrebate.com is the in-house rebate fulfillment center for TigerDirect, in other words, they are all subsidiaries of the company known as Systemax.

When buying from TigerDirect in the future, always assume you will never receive the rebate.

I have never used onrebate.com, but I have been lucky as I have never been turned down for a rebate and have received everyone that I have been owed from other fulfillment centers.

This is a letter that I sent!

Ming,

My brother went through the same thing with a different company.

So I wrote a letter and faxed it off to the company. In less than an hour, the Vice-President of a corporation had called my brother and promised to look into the matter.

This is the letter I sent...

To Whom It May Concern:

Who does one write to when a company scams a consumer?

Who does one write to when a company develops a reputation for ripping off its customer?

Recently, your corporation notified my brother, **** ****, that he did not meet the requirements for a rebate. My brother then commented to me, that he followed the requirements to the letter and could not understand why there was a problem!

He also felt as if he was ripped off by your company!

Well, I could understand why there is such a problem because I did a check on the Internet and found that the ***** Corporation has a growing reputation for ripping of the customer!

In fact, the Rip-Off report shows that this type of rebate scam is common with your company and checking with the Better Business Bureau shows that the **** Corporation has 83 complaints in the last 36 months, which as far as I am concerned is a horrible track record!

Did you know that your company has a bad reputation?

When a company chooses to offer rebates and contracts the rebate process to an independent third party, then this invites abuse and in the short run it is the customer who loses.

The fact remains that the **** Corporation has a poor reputation!

I didn't say much to my brother when he told me about the problem except, I am sorry to hear that ****!

I also did not offer any advice because he does not yet have the computer skills needed to address this type of common problem and which is why I am writing to your company about this problem.

The reason why I am writing about this is because I do know about the hundreds of articles that have been written about consumers and the problems with rebates. I also know that sometimes it is best to notify the company directly when a problem with a rebate occurs.

The fact remains; the company that handles your rebates has every incentive to deny a claim!

I am confident that if your company would look into this matter that you would find he did in fact follow the instructions for the rebate.

My brother can be contacted at:

**** ****
1000 Anywhere
Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
(***) ***-****

Again, it is hoped that the **** Corporation would look into this matter and reconsider this unfortunate decision!

It is also my hope that the **** Corporation would change rebate companies because your reputation is more important that a few rebates!

Sincerely,

Ming... my brother got his refund!

Take care!

got email response -- not responsible for funding

I got a email response from the customer service as below:

Dear Valued Customer,

First and Foremost, we would like to express our sincere apology for the inconvience encountered. However please allow me to clarify that Onrebate.com Inc is not the party responsible for funding your rebate. Onrebate.com is a rebate clearing house. Our function regarding rebates is to process the mail in rebate applications and determine whether those applications meet the eligibility requirements set fourth by our clients, the rebate sponsors. Onrebate.com does not sponsor the rebates and isn't responsible for funding the rebate claims. The funding for the rebate is solely the responsibility of the sponsoring vendor or manufacture. Your rebate application has already been processed and approved by Onrebate.com. Your rebate payment will be disbursed as soon as the rebate sponsor funds your claim. Onrebate.com is currently working with the rebate sponsor to secure funding.

I find the thing is weired. First, if Onrebate.com is not responsible for funding, who and why authorizes the company to approve rebate applictation? Second, Who is the rebate sponsors? When I purchased the items, nowhere make this distiction. How is Onrebate.com working with the rebate sponsors? And finally, why the rebate sponsors delay in honor the purchase?
