4/7 -Hired Tip Top Roofing aka Pacific Construction to redo the shingles on the entire house and to correct the source of the water leak by on a flat roof in the balcony area. He claimed to have special training in Torch-Down roofing. Told job should start in a few days and only take 3-4 days to complete.

4/12 - Dumpster delivered
4/20 - Satellite dish installed (This was scheduled for after the roof should have been done originally) Called Keith to let him know about this, he said I should have waited but that he could work around it and would put it back when done.

4/23 - Job started
5/5 - Keith called saying there was an insect problem and he needed to bring in an exterminator. There would be an extra change for this of $125.00. Said this was guaranteed for 1 year and he would give us a copy of the bill, guarantee and contact information for the exterminator.

5/5 - Called to complain about the way they had re-mounted the satellite dish. They had large holes cut in the new shingles and the dish was remounted very loosely. Keith said again that the satellite dish should not have been put up yet and that I should have waited until the roof was done. (If they had done the roof in the 3-4 days they claimed the roof would have been done long before the satellite dish was put up.) I had to repair the damage done where the satellite dish was mounted myself.

5/18 - Keith called to say the torch down will not work because there was not enough clearance under the door to do it that way and that there was too much risk of fire. He said he contacted his supplier for alternative ideas and they suggested a peel and stick roofing. Keith claimed it was a more expensive way of doing it but that it was better then the torch down and would be guaranteed for 12 years. We hired Tip Top Roofing specifically due to the fact that he claimed to have special training in doing the torch down roofing.

5/19 - Found the screen doors damaged and the French doors singed from a flame or high heat. Keith had not mentioned that this had happened. Called Keith to complain about the screen doors. Keith acknowledged responsibility for the doors but said they were in bad shape before he did anything but agreed to have the screens replaced at his cost.

6/8 - Job Completed
6/13 -Complained about the mismatch of color on the caps and that the shingles on the back of the living room section where they meet the main house were not laying down flat. Also asked for copies of the exterminators bill, warrantee and contact information and warrantee information on the roofing material. He said that the shingles would lay flat with time and that the caps would "burn in" with time and if not in 3-4 months he would replace them. Keith promised to send a copy of the bill for the exterminator and a card and phone # for him, also said he would send the warrantee info on the roofing work.

6/23 - Sheetrocker came and put up the new sheetrock ceiling in the family room under where flat roof use to leak.

8/10 - I called Keith to say that the roof was leaking and wrecking the new sheet rocked ceiling in the family room in exactly the same spot as the original leak did before any work was done - He said he would come up and take a look at it in a couple of days. Said he would take care of repairing the ceiling in the family room if it turned out that the roof was leaking.

8/14 - He came up and looked at the roof - Told us that the sheetrocker had done a lousy job as the tape was showing. (It was only showing due to the water damage)Said he would come back when the roof dried out to caulk the area where the siding contacted the new roofing.

8/20 - I called Keith again to say that the roof was leaking again - He said he would come up and take a look at it again in a couple of days and run some tests.

8/23 - Keith came during the day with no notice and ran his tests with no one around.

8/23 - Keith called and he told me that he had run tests and he felt the roof was not the problem, that it was the siding and a gap he found. Said that when he hit it with water it started leaking in about 3 seconds - Discussed possible sources of the leak. Keith was indicating that he did not feel it was the roof but that because we were good customers as a favor to us he would caulk the siding where he believes the leak was coming from. Said he would come up on Monday or Tuesday to fix it via caulk - claimed it was a better caulk then the stuff you get at Home Depot (Costs $7.00/tube) I told him we had carpet scheduled to be put down on the 31st - He said he would fix it before then.

8/25 - I ran my own tests and could not tell at what point the leak started - found many spots that could be the leak point, the main one being the front left side corner where the flashing was not done properly. Took pictures with the digital camera

8/29 - Called and left a message asking when he would be coming as he had promised to come on Monday or Tuesday before the carpet was put in. (No return call)

8/30 - Called and rescheduled the carpet installation.
8/31 - Ran another test myself where I flooded just the roof so that it was wet but not flowing over the edges and waited. Water soon started running from under the front board and after about 20 minutes or so started dripping from the ceiling inside the house. Received a call from Keith saying the reason he had not come was he was waiting for some material to come in. When I told him that I had run another test and that it is the roof leaking he became all upset and said that it's not and that he would come up and run the test with both of us there and he would control the water and he would prove it to me. He said he couldn't do it this weekend but that he would do it next week.

9/10 - Called Keith and left message requesting him to call me back regarding when he is coming up to run the tests he said he would do last week. (No return call)
9/12 - Called again - (No return call)
9/14 - Called again - (No return call)

9/20 -Received a message from Keith. Said he is trying to get a representative from the manufacturer to come up with him when he and I run the test again. Said he would call me tonight at home. (He never called at night)

11/21 - Called Keith and told him that unless I hear from him by the end of the weekend I would be contacting an attorney.

If you read this far you know by now not to hire this guy. Run don't walk to the nearest phone listing and find someone else. He has never supplied the warranree info for any of the work done and never repaired the leak. I finally tore up the roof myself and redid it and now no more leak. In the mean time I had to replace the ceilings in two rooms do to mold forming due to water leaks.
