I purchased four tires 9/16/2000 from Tires Plus for $713.87. I had them on my car for two months prior to winter tires being installed. In April of 2001 I remounted these tires (summer tires only). I had a non-repairable puncture in one tire in May of 2001. I called Tires Plus to purchase a new replacement tire and was told that these tires were discontinued and no longer available. I stated that I had just purchased these in September of last year and that they had very minimum mileage on them. They suggested I buy two new tires of the same brand, but different model.

I decided that I would search the local stores and the web to try to purchase the one tire that I actually needed, but this was to no avail. They were no longer available. At the same time I had the District Manager (Don Hanaran) of Tires Plus do an all store search to see if one could be found. I also called Dunlop (manufacturer of tire) to see if I could purchase one from them. They explained to me that that particular tire had been discontinued since the fall of 1998. They also informed me that I would need all four tires exchangednot two, due to tire/tread incompatibility. They said they would work with Tires Plus on replacement of all four tires.

I then called the Tires Plus District Manager back and asked why they were selling two year old discontinued tires without customer notification. He replied, "this happens". I replied that I was willing to pay for one tire, which I had punctured, but not for four. They stated they would contact Dunlop and work out a deal. They called me back and stated that new tires were being shipped and they would have them at the store soon. I asked them how much I was liable for and they told me they did not know at this time, for they had to measure my old tires.

When the new tires came in I went to the store and again asked for the final price. They stated that they could not give me a final price as they were waiting to hear from Colleen at Dunlop, but that it would be to my agreement. They started working on my car, prior to my knowing the final cost. When the car was done, the bill came to $511.49. I stated that this was not acceptable, and that they should have told me last fall that the tires I was purchasing had been discontinued for two years. The manager stated that I definitely should have been told. I proceeded to tell him that he was the person who had sold them to me, and that he never mentioned this at the time of my purchase. I also said that I had just paid out over $700.00 and was not about to pay another $500.00 due to puncturing one tire. Of course, in order for them to release my car, I had to give them a check for $511.49.

I immediately stopped payment of the check and contacted the Tires Plus manager again, telling him I had stopped payment and asking him where I should send my payment for one tire. He said "bad move" and hung up. I am now receiving threatening letters, name, etc. being given to credit bureau's as well as my checking account being frozen until I pay this amount. I feel that I was lured into the Tires Plus store for the second set of four tires, as well as totally mislead, not only with the first purchase, but also with the final outcome/price of the second purchase.

Thank You,

Tires do not withstand anything, and sometimes very little. If you purchased Dunlop tires through Tires Plus YOU most likely asked for them.
Dunlop tires are not a stocked item and are usually requested.

I apologize that Tires Plus wanted you to have the same type of tires on each axle to prevent a radial pull.

I'm sorry they were concerned with your future satisfaction of your tire performance.
Maybe they should'nt care and just mismatch everything.

I don't know, call me stupid if you will but I think I would appreciate the fact that they would pay that close of attention and get me into a full set.

I mean really, you found this site to complain so you must have a pc=COULD YOU HAVE FOUND A SITE ABOUT DUNLOP TIRES AND GOT YOUR FACTS!

All I'm trying to say is $700.00 is a chunk of change and I personally would have done my research before I went out and spent that kind of money on tires.

Thanks for the information
I just checked prices with a tires plus but do not know if part of same company. After reading the aforementioned information, I believe I will shop elsewhere.

For tires to cost that much, they better withstand anything, I don't care what it is. The prices are unacceptable as well as unethical. Won't deal with a company that supports this from any location affiliated with them. Regardless of whether it is involving me or someone else. Thanks for the save.

Rebuttal:

Mr. Dillion called me and stated he had hit some thing that removed a chunk of rubber from his tire and would like to find a replacement. Tried to locate a tire for Mr. Dillion, could not locate within our system. Asked Mr. Dillion to go to our Ridgedale location of which he did. The Store Manager at this location called Dunlop Corporate office for assistence with Mr. Dillion's problem. Understanding customer relations Dunlop stated they would adjust Mr. Dillion's tires on a prorated basis

for customer satisfaction. The first tire Mr. Dillion paid full price due to the road hazard, the second and third he paid 50%, the fourth tire he paid 65%, this was based on tread wear recieved. As for the services of mounting and balancing with new valve stems was also discounted to Mr. Dillion.

Mr. Dillion signed the work order prior to services being performed giving us permission to work on his vehicle. This work was performed in good faith, working with the manufacture and the end user.

Mr. Dillion stopped payment on the check the following day.
