Tivo Inc. Do Not Give TiVO a CC number! Alviso, California
Warning: Do NOT give TiVO a credit card number - use money orders!
I decided I was tired of the CopyRight cartel in March, 2009. I canceled my Dish Network subscription, no problem. I called TiVO: "Oh, so sorry, our network is down. I'll take your info and cancel when it's back up."
April - another charge.
"Oh, well, we've already charged you, so it will stop next month." OK, not right, but I'm not blowing my top over $14.
May - another charge. Hmmm. Well my card expires this month, they won't be able to bill me again.
June. No such luck. Call, Whistle cycle - after two hours on hold I give up.
July - another bill. Call TiVO. OK, we'll disconnect and give someone 30 days free service. No problem for me, I'm throwing the DVR away (no recycle program).
August - Whee! no bill!
September - another bill, call bank, deny charge, NOT AUTHORIZED.
October - another bill, call bank, rinse, lather, repeat.
Call TiVO again - get "Andrew" gives me cancellation number 091007-001676.
Also says "we've already billed - we can't take that back." No problem, I'll
instruct my bank it is not an authorized charge.
All this for a system that has been gathering dust since March, 2009. I think that
TiVO's inability to refund charges or check system access is designed to give them
not a window into the facts, but plausible deniability in situations they know they
are skirting very close to violating Fair Credit Reporting act provisions.
Bottom line - don't do business with TiVO. It is my opinion they are not honest.
