This all started when I bought a slimmer belt by TKO at a local retail store. The belt itself had a removable hot and cold gel pack that was to be heated up in a microwave.

Upon taking it home, I took out the pack and microwaved it as directed. It exploded in my microwave after 3/4 of the instructed time had passed.

I contacted TKO and received a misspelled e-mail directing me to the company that actually produces the belt, iWave audio. In this e-mail there was no apology, no concern and no offer to follow up with iWave for me.

I pointed this out to that customer service representative, Leah Morejon and she forwarded my e-mail to iWave for me. I also pointed out to her that I didn't know if it was safe to use my microwave.

The next day the iWave representative e-mailed me, his name is Steven Scaba, and once again just sent me an e-mail with a link telling me to fill something out. He still did not answer me about the microwave. I told him I did not want to fill out the form until I knew WHY I was filling it out and until my questions were answered. He continually repeated to me to just fill out the form. He also told me to attach images of the exploded pack.

I told him that I did not have the pack, that I was concerned about the toxicity of the chemicals and threw it out. I asked him what to do about this and once again about the safety concerns of using the microwave.

After several e-mails he tells me that he doesn't need pictures, to just complete the form without them. I tell him I am not completely the form until he can answer me about my microwave or direct me to someone that can. I explained to him that I feel like they are trying to railroad me into filling a claim before I have all the information and escape liability for damaging personal property.

At this point he refuses to e-mail me back until I fill out the form.

I e-mail the first person I talked to and tell her that the representative she forwarded me to is being uncooperative, and ask for her supervisor's e-mail (according to the Steven guy at iWave, he doesn't have a supervisor).

I e-mail the TKO supervisor, Lee McLaren, and explain once again that the pack exploded, no one seems concerned, and no one can/will answer me about the microwave. He replies and tells me that I'm not supposed to put the belt in the microwave, only the pack, that's why it exploded. I tell him AGAIN that I did ONLY put the gel pack in the microwave. At this point he stops replying.

The gel pack doesn't even say the contents or type of gel it is, but from my research it is mildly toxic and can cause cancer or birth defects if ingested. That's in addition to vomiting, diarrhea, and all of the traditional food poisoning effects. I explain this to both Lee McLaren and Steven Scaba and receive no reply.

I finally decide to fill out the form he requested since I know have all of the information I need (through no help from customer support) when I complete the form, there is an error on the website that doesn't allow it to submit. I e-mail Steven Scaba and tell him this and he still does not reply.

In short, TKO and iWave Audio sold me a product that failed immediately and rendered personal property unusable and they are doing NOTHING about it. I have no be given a refund or any answers and I cannot get them to even acknowledge the damage to my microwave. I have even had to fight tooth and nail for an apology out of these people.

Do not use this company, their products will likely kill, injury, or infect you.

Retraction of Statements in Original Report

#3Author of original report

Mon, February 18, 2013

I am the author of this original post on Rip Off Report and I am writing this as a retraction to my original comments about iWave Audio.

After writing the original post, the company contacted me via e-mail and notified me that the contents of the slimmer belt were safe to handle and that it was safe to use my microwave after the product exploded inside.

Because of this new information, I have no reason to believe that any iWave products are unsafe or will cause health issues, and I hereby withdraw and retract any statements which may have suggested anything to the contrary.

Please consider this posting when reading my original post on this matter.  Thank you.
