We had a horrible experience with TLC K9 Academy. We spent $700 with the promise that our dog would be trained in 2 sessions and would no longer show aggression to kids. The first session lasted a little over an hour, we called and complained about the lack of time spent with our dog and they set up another appointment with the trainer, saying it would not be counted as our 2nd session. The trainer showed up, spent 40 minutes at our house, barely 15 minutes with our dog, and suggested we host a "dog training" party with kids to get him used to the kids. Sorry but I do not feel comfortable with inviting my friends' kids over to test out the training...what happens if he bit one of them???

So we called and complained again, and were told that we weren't going to get our money back because that is not their policy.

We are extremely unhappy with the way we were treated. $700 is a lot of money for us and we were under the impression that they would work more with our dog. We could have had the same training if we went to Petco.

No one can train aggression out of a dog. And you can't work thru it in 2 lessons no matter what magic wand someone waves. This is a joke. Sorry you are uneducated in dog behavior and that you thought that a dog really would stop being aggressive in 2 lessons!!! That's horribly dangerous.

I received a phone call from Bill, the owner of TLC Academy, on Friday August 1st telling me I had 24 hours to retract my report or he would put liens on our cars and sue us for slander and defamation of character. We have an email from him the same day stating the same exact thing, including the evidence he has against us. So I would like to set a few things straight that I did not previously list in my report.

1 - My husband was given progress reports after the 2 visits to fill out right away in front of the trainer (who we did like - she is really nice and seems like a great person). He gave positive feedback in both of the reports because he did not want to get her in trouble and it didn't help that she was sitting right in front of him and collected the report after he was done writing - maybe in the future they should let the customer mail in the report? Just an idea. The issue with both of the trainings was that there was not enough time spent in our house training our dog. They were supposed to be two hour sessions and the first one was only an hour and fifteen minutes - which is why my husband called a few days later to voice his disapproval. Not for the actual training that day, but for the lack of time spent. The second training session lasted 45 minutes. Plus our training was rescheduled two different times due to the trainer's car problems and what not which is scary anytime you pay that amount of money.

2 - We had both called over the course of the month to voice our concern. TLC set up a training session with a different trainer for July 31st and we both ended up calling on the 30th to cancel. Both my husband and I called at separate times and spoke with someone regarding the fact that we were upset and were just tired of dealing with them. Our first training session was on July 3rd so this is over 3 weeks of us being upset and feeling like we wasted our money. I don't think it shows anything badly against us for cancelling the appointment with the second trainer. You can only handle so much until you are fed up. So TLC did try to help anyway they could, but it doesn't change the fact that we felt left with wanting more for the money we spent. We don't make a lot of money either. My husband is an administrative assistant and I am a student - we have two kids. Dishing out over $800 is a big deal to most people and we definitely don't take it lightly.

Our dog responded really well to the "place" command that they introduced us (we did not use the shock collar at all while training our dog without the trainer because we didn't fully understand the equipment and weren't comfortable with it - plus it was not in our contract so weren't obligated to use it) and that has been great. But we still don't feel like it was worth the money and we are entitled to our opinion. So for $800 we have a dog that will sit in a place for as long as we want (most of the time - you know how puppies are :) )...he still can't be around kids because we know how kids can be - if he stays in his place that's all well and good, but what if one of the kids who come over want to pet our cute little dog???
