I had been looking for an Apple MacBook Pro for some time when I ran across a deal that I couldnt pass up on craigslist. I became very excited, so I emailed the person and asked if the lap top was still availble. They emailed back and told me that it was still available and that the computer was registered in the United States. She had recently lost her job in the United States and moved in with her sister in the UK and she needed some extra cash.

She also said that she would pay for two day delivery, so that I could have the lap top faster. She told me that she would drop the computer off with a company called TNT. Once the item was dropped off I would be recieving and e-mail from the agent responsible for the package that was dropped off and he would also be the one picking up the money and holding the money until I recieved my package and told the agent to release it.

I did recieve the email, which told me how and where to make the payment. I was told to go to a western union and wire the amount to the agent responsible and that as soon as they recieved the payment, my package would be on the way.

However I never recieved the email that my package was going to be on its way. I had already wired the money to the agent, however the agent was actually the one that was the seller of the lap top. He basically took my money and ran.

I would have never realized that this was a scam unless I had read here on rip off report that someone had recieved the same email as me. I dont want people to get ripped of big money like I did. Even though I did my research I missed the parts about the strang emails, and I wish I would have seen it.

IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU AND THE SELLER LIVES IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND WANTS YOU TO WIRE MONEY OVER USING WESTERN UNION, IT IS A SCAM! DO NOT DO IT

You were ripped off by the person who perpetrated the scam, not by TNT and not by Craigs List.  You have no right reporting either of these companies.  All of the red flags were there.  The story was convoluted, Western Union is the one and only or one of two untraceable cashiers check places...  Need I go on.  Any half wit would have realized it was a scam. The scammer has no relation to TNT or to Craigs List.  They just used them like they used you.  Further, these people constantly look through Craigs List and elsewhere for opportunities to scam people. When someone offers to buy something from you and does not need to see the item first, doesn't live anywhere near you, has an excuse, offers to pay full price and more if you will send them the difference, doesn't that tell you something?  If not, don't use Craigs List.
