To Guitarists of Las Vegas,

I am a guitar player of 22 years, and I would like to share with you, my negative bait and switch experience with craigslist's "Guitar Doctor Bob", His real name is Bob McCluskey.

Guitar Doctor Bob Provides a semi-decent service, I'm not sure I would even recommend him, even if he wasn't a liar and a cheat. The problem is that I called in advance, when I was gathering information determining whether I was going to go with his services or luthier I had been considering.

When I spoke with Bob over the phone, the key selling point that made me decide to go with him was that his "guitar service" came with a free set of strings, without that I was thinking he charged too much for a simple adjustment, turning of an alan wrench- $40. But I was ok with the price because Bob emphasized how a new set of replacement strings would be free.

So before and during the service I brought the topic of the free strings up several times, because I didn't feel that I even needed new strings. I had at one point even asked him if it would be cheaper if I didn't get the strings with the service, at which he recprocated that it would be. So all was good, and then I got to thinking that I would just pay him the 40 and take the free set of strings, so I told him to nevermind about discounting me for not taking the free new strings, and that I would have him put the new strings on my guitar afterall.

The entire time before and during the service, he maintained that the strings were included free as part of the overall service.

This is where the bait n switch comes in to play. So when the guitar was done, and it was time to pay, I gave bob a $100 bill and he gave me $60 change and told me I had to pay the guy at the counter for the strings and gave me the most annoying "Ha I just scammed you, what are you gonna do about it?" look. Well, originally, Bob said the strings were part of the deal. Now, don't get me wrong, the price of the strings was only $8, and I had over $2000 in my pocket, so it's not like I was hard up for the cash, but it's the principal that Bob was dishonest, and his smug attitude that made the hair on my ears stand on end.

This incident actually stopped me from spending over $800 on a guitar in that shop that I had been interested in.

Warning: DO NOT TRUST GUITAR DOCTOR BOB, HE IS A LIAR AND A SCAMMER!!!!!

I have used the services of Doctor Bob for some time now and have had nothing but the most professional and exemplary service. Nowhere does he mention or has ever mentioned "free strings", as he does not sell nor does he stock new sets of guitar strings. These are to be purchased from the store itself, or you may supply your own. I am shocked that this is even an issue.

As far as his work as a luthier; it is second to none. I have had work performed by local luthiers for over 35 years, and trust him with my most prized and collectable guitars. He most recently saved a rare Gibson Les Paul from being rendered unplayable and was able to restore it to near perfect condition.

His work stands on its own.

Under no circumstances have I ever for the last 6 years of doing set up at todays music ever included the strings or any other parts in the price of the set up,this bozo was trying to pull one scam after another the whle time he was getting work done in my shop, constantly trying to get a break and grinding me on the estimate for the second guitar he brought in,he is delsional and I will be happy to discuss this problem futher with him any time in person.

Dear Bob/whoever,

First off, I have no reason to lie so I could gain an $8 set of guitar strings, that would be retarded, and the fact of the matter is that "Guitar Doctor Bob" Lied to get my buisness.

Second off, who doesn't try to negotiate for better prices, and how does that make YOUR customer a bozo, isn't negotiating smarter and common? The only reason I'm a bozo is for trusting you in the first place.

Third off, why would I bother wasting any more gas to see you, as the drive to your place costs more than 8 bucks in the first place? Besides that, you're obviously not interested in settling up with me anyways, I bet you really needed that 8 bucks, didn't you?

The main reason I was upset is that YOU would lie to gain a measely 8 bucks...

Now, the best that you got is to retort and call your customer names, instead of making things right?

People, I don't care what you do. My purpose here is to share the truth about "Guitar Doctor Bob".

I'm not even satisfied with the service you performed on my guitar.

That's ok, this whole thing has been a learning experience for me:

Don't take your instrument to someone who isn't a certified luthier.

End of story.
