Complaint Review: Tony Scandy

This person who bought from Tony(who i have never met in my life) is obviously the worlds biggest doggy dumbass. I can only give a few pointers here for future buyers of Corsos because they are big and powerful and super smart And i love this breed. I hate the idea of anyone having a corso they dont want because these dogs always deserve owners that love them and give them a happy life and nothing less so here goes:

This cheap skate buyers corso was obviously smarter than him and the dog paid the price. There is a huge lesson to be learned here. Always always ALWAYS get whatever agreements you and the seller make in writing. That way later on if a problem arises there is no he said, she said. You have all agreements in writing. DO NOT get a corso unless you are prepared to care for, train or get trained a LARGE dog. That means large feed bill, large vet bill, large poop in the yard,large everything. My corso has her designated spot on the couch.  She takes up alot of space where she lays. Luckily we have a big house and a long couch. Never ever even think about getting a corso if you are not fully ready to add another member to your human family. The reason is because these dogs are very intelligent. That intelligence is one of the things that make them such good guardians. However if you are not committed to the dog it is also one of the things that will make you want to pull your hair out. Again. if you are not ready to deal with an animal that requires you to treat it as a member of your human family then please do everyone a favor and don't get a corso. These dogs require human bonding just like we do in order for them to be really happy and well adjusted. I love my corso and am going to get another one. I take my corso to dog training class once a week and have been doing so since she was 3 months old. She is 13 months old now and we are both still learning alot. The one thing i do not like about this breed is that they do not handle this Texas summer heat well. 

Also please look at your prospective puppies pedigree. Im seeing to much inbreeding for my liking with this breed in the USA.  Inhreeding is a powerful tool. It serves a very particular purpose. It can be a very good thing but it can also be a very bad thing. Inbreeding should be reserved for exceptional animals and the lines they come from that have PROVEN they are worthy of such breeding practices. The word PROVEN is the key word here. Just because a dog is pretty or a cool color or has a champion pedigree doesn't mean its worthy of bring inbred. ALOT of thoughtful consideration and PLANNING for the sake of the breed as a whole needs to go into inbreeding decisions. The animals in question need to PROVE by their actions, whether it be a dog sport, an exceptional herding dog, a line that has produced great companion animals VERY consistently a exceptional line of champion show dogs, Etc. Awards for these characteristics are a good guide for such breeding practices. However seeing how it is the world population of Corsos doesn't seem to warrant the tight inbreeding im seeing with certain lines in the USA im recommending that potential owners in the USA look closely at their pedigrees before buying. Thats not to say that a dog that is not inbred (or linebred) will be a better dog than one that is because a great dog can come from sunstandard pedigree and a substandard dog can come from a great pedigree. Thats one reason some pups from the same liter are deemed show dogs and others are deemed as pet quality only. Im just saying that inbreeding can be a risky practice with any mammal. I personally would never buy an inbred dog from someone who had not been breeding for less than 20 years. Remember to, just because someone has bred champion show dogs doesn't mean that that show dog will make a good companion dog. Sometimes people can get tunnel vision and only breed for conformation and color that will produce show dogs. Not what will make a great companion dog to. All these things need to be taken into consideration when choosing a pup. If i was a clueless person but was dead set on getting a corso i would seriously only consider buying my pup from a breeder that would take my dog back if it came to pass that i wasn't really ready to have a corso or i just couldnt keep the dog anymore. All the above is my opinion and only intended to help prospective buyers with there considerations. 

In my searching for Scandifio Cane Corsos this report came up so I was intrigued and had to read. Honestly, I feel sorry for your dog and if I had a say in the matter I would happily take her off your hands. First off, you dont "neuter" a female, you SPAY her. Secondly, using a shock collar to "train" seriously? What is wrong with you. I had to laugh when you said you took her to the petco to get her trained, honestly basic puppy training is not difficult. We have 3 mastiffs in our home all of which know to go to their kennels and await for dinner, do not break command until told to do so, are inside dogs, well behaved and never once have we had to use a shock collar. How about we put it on you and then speak to you in a different language and then shock you when you don't do what is commanded. People like you need to NOT have dogs let alone try to breed them. The fact that you know so little about the personality of the Cane Corso signifies you were in it for the money, not for the integrity of the breed. The only bad thing I can say about Tony in all of this is that he sold you a dog in the first place. If it were my puppy you had come to purchase I would have told you to go take a hike. Poor baby girl, I hope by now you've got "tired" enough with her that you found her a much better home. Please do all of us a favor and not EVER get another dog until you go some basic training classes YOURSELF!

First off, I would have to agree about ownership, understanding the breed and such. However, I have seen throughout the last 15+ years, unfavorable breedings from scamdifio. I have seen many hybrid canes sporting his name. Of course he has produced some good ones along the way. He has been cranking out pups for two decades. I personally delt with him over the ohone about 6 years ago. I got a very bad feeling when he gave me run around.
Despite the complaintee's lack of ownership or ability, based soley on the responce to him from scamdifio, I would not recommend his service to anyone. I simply dont believe he breeds with moral integrity 100 percent of time. Regardless of how many good looking canes have came from him. Customer service is a huge part of breeding. Furthermore, scamdifio is one of those nreeders with fancy website boasting about honor n integrity. Why did he even allow this man the oportunity to own a pup. He should have either known from screening or delt with situation like a man of his word,.insreaf of shifty wall street scammer. I have also seen more run down females over bred and passed on to other people from scamdifio than any other breeder in country. Food for thought.,good luk

We purchased a Corso from Tony 18 months ago who was "partially"t rained and had won a puppy class at a show. Tony also asked that we agree only to breed the dog with him. The dog developed cherry eye and will not be bred now due to a related eye problem. We also experienced some destructive chewing and soiling in the house that was entirely due to our being lazy in crating and training the dog who is absolutely angentle giant who only wants to please. Once we took the time to train the dog and another mixed breed we rescued they are fine in the house. My 7 year old son can easily walk, command etc the Corso who out weighs him by at least 70lbs. Our Corso now sleeps on the bed if my son is there or on his own bed and is calm, non aggressive without a good reason and a pleasure to have in the family. Tony did exactly what he said he would do and delivered a great puppy. Our Corso is a great dog now because we trained him having gotten educated by someone who knew what they were doing. Full disclosure he still slips out of the backyard and we end up looking for him but we are figuring out his escape spots and he never seems to wander more than little ways from the house. We have not worked at all on teaching him to respect the fence (our fault, not his or Tony's) but that is a project for this summer and we will not use an electric fence.

We have met Tony once for less than an hour when we picked out the dog having already done the research and determined a Corso was right for us so I would have no problem bashing him if there was a reason to do so but this is the best dog we have ever owned and we would go back to Scandy if we were looking for another dog.

First I would like to start by stating that I have NO personal relationship with Tony Scandy. I have dealt with Tony and Scandifio Cane Corsos for almost 13 years. I was first introduced to Tony in 1998 when I was interested in breeding my female Corso. Tony treated me with the utmost professionalism and made sure my goal was accomplished. I traveled to Tonys house 3 times to make sure his stud "did the job". As promised his stud accomplished his duty and I ended up with 11 beautiful puppies. Years later I visited Tony to purchase a male Corso. Tony had one picked out for me and I couldnt be more happy with his selection. This male I purchased from Tony ended up being the greatest dog I have ever owned and my personal BEST FRIEND. I named him "Blaze". Blaze never approached anyhone with aggression. Walked obediently off the leash, never stepped foot off of my property. Treated my newborn son as one of his own. A gentle "obedient" giant, that was trained PROPERLY and was given the attention DAILY that a Cane Corso needs.Through the years I called on Tony for questions and concerns that I had. He answered every question I had. Tony lives and breathes this breed of dog. He always supported me and stood by his word. Let me say that again..."Tony Scandy is a man of his word". I think you get the idea about my past with Tony.

First of all, I am positively sure the original post writer NEVER did his homework on the Cane Corso breed. This breed is dominant! Dont fault the breed, fault the owner. Secondly you took your Corso to PetSmart? I almost fell off my chair when I read that. You probably owned a Dachsund before you took on a Corso. It sounds like you got in over your head with your dog. Its not Tonys fault, its yours. Take ownership of your decision. And as far as Tony threatening you? Seriously???? You were probably calling Tony every time the dog didnt listen to your "command". I probably would end up threatening you too. This breed is not for everyone. Please do your homework before even considering a Cane Corso. If after deciding you are cut out to own the best breed in the world I would HIGHLY recommend Scandifio Cane Corsos and Tony Scandy. I know the original post is 2 years old, but I had to state my experiences with Tony and not let anyone feel the original post was how Tony Scandy handled his business. I plan on purchasing more Cane Corsos in my lifetime, and you can be sure I will be calling Tony again.

    I also have a Cane Corso I purchased from Tony Scandy.  Grizz is my 3rd Corso.  My first from Tony Scandy. There is no comparison.  Grizz was professionally trained by Golden state canine.  They were available to answer questions.  Tony did put me in contact with them and I only had to call once.  Grizzly, is the best dog I have ever owned.  I am an Rn, would lives on a farm and raises horses with my husband and 3 children.   Grizzly is very healthy.  Very well socialized with a super temperament.  He amazes people when he sits without a muzzle like a perfect angel for the Vet for his vaccinations.  He doesnt like diesel engines and delivery trucks.  He will run down my driveway full speed, yet stop and turn around at the point he isnt allowed past.  My neighbors comment about my electric fence.  THERE IS NO ELECTRIC FENCE.  An electric fence will not stop a full grown corso.  He is that well trained.

     Living in the country, and with the decline in the economy, we have had a rash of burglaries, in broad daylight, and also 2 nights in a row just recently my neighbors were robbed while they slept.  Grizzly is a huge deterrent.  No one gets out of their car, or trespasses.  I have no doubt he will defend us if necessary. On another occasion my daughter was home alone and 2 men with out of state plates pulled along the back of my house and sat in their car, we live over 350 feet off the road it was highly suspicious and the men and their vehicle matched the description of the men who had robbed some houses in the area.  My daughter let Grizzly out, they took off.  He is worth his weight in gold.   

       When I read the negative report it made me sad.  A dog soiling is a lack of house training.  Crate training is the best.  This dog shouldnt have had the opportunity to soil everywhere. If you feed a dog at the same time, put it out correctly and so on.  Also shocking it and yelling for the 3rd time! You paint a disturbing picture of you standing with a remote.  When you scream at a dog it no longer can learn.  Your frustration is now its focus.  Its learning NOT to trust you.  If you knew better you wouldnt have done these things, much less put your behavior in writing. And eating its own feces is a sign of malnutrition or extreme stress in an animal.  Its clear you and your dog need the training.  You cant have one without the other.  Even if you have your dog trained and you are not educated, you will be in the same place in 6 months.  This breed is a whole different package.

     I am not a close friend of Tonys writing to defend him,  he probably wouldnt even remember us except he might remember Grizzly, since he named him.    Everyone who meets my dog loves him.  My daughters friend was here and just stated that he is such a nice dog and she used to be afraid of him just because he looks intimidating.  I am very happy with my Corso.  Mary Susany

Is this the first Corso you owned?
I have purchased a male Corso from tony 6yrs ago and let me say that my dog has turned out to be an amazing dog everything a Corso is supposed to be.
If this is your first Corso may I suggest reading about their behavior and temperament before getting yourself involved with this caliber of dog, these are not your typical dog
Regardless of what any vet or trainer tells you, these are very strong willed dogs and need strong leaders! You must be firm but positive with them at ALL times and believe me persistence is key with these guys.
My Corso was as rambunctious as a rhinoceros during his first few years and by the way petsmart they are a bunch of phonies they cant handle a corso, believe me i weeded out a lot of wannabe dog trainers! You have to realize that you dont have an average dog, you need to stay positive and speak with people,vets,trainers etc.. that are familier with this type of dog or you will get nowhere and have a beast on your hands!
Tony had recommended me to a trainer by the name of (Roland fox) Who's staff was a hit from the get go! They know the breed and know what to expect, also it wouldn't hurt to watch a few of ceaser milans episodes to fill in the blanks and learn a little bit of dog psychology.
A good trainer is necessary also because you personaly need to be schooled on how to execute the commands etc etc..
