Top Cat Appliances Over Charge for Dryer Repair Internet
We contacted Top Cat Appliance to come out and repair our whirlpool dryer. We thought the issue was a broken heating element. Top Cat has a policy where the service charge ($65) is free if they do the repair, otherwise you pay the $65.
They came out spent 20 minutes repairing the dryer-which was to replace the heating element (listed on RepairClinic.com for $32) and the total cost was $199. We were charged approx $167 for 20 minutes of service and $32 for the part. What a rip off. I had called previous and asked them what the estimated price would be-they said they couldn't give it. I don't understand why they didn't just charge us their service charge of $65 plus parts. My mechanic only charges $75 an hour. This company basically charged me $500 an hour!!!!!
When I called and complained about the price I was told I would be given a $25 coupon off our next service. I told them to forget it as we wouldn't use them again. I highly recommend you NOT use this company. The charge entirely too much and keep their prices a secret so you are stuck paying the full amount.
Do NOT use this company!!!!

Did you really think the repairman would charge $32 that includes "free" service fee to fix your dryer? No way did they come into your home, diagnose & repair the dryer and write-up the service order all in 20 minutes! The repairman is on the clock when he walks through the door until he leaves with a check. The "free" service charge with repairs is only a gimmick-fees are always figured in one way or the other. If shop A says "we charge:service fee+labor+parts" & shop B says "we charge:service fee+labor+parts+no fee WITH repair" most people will pick shop B because they think it's a better deal. I can almost guarantee shop B will cost just as much (if not more) as shop A. It's nothing but a word game to get customers.......and it worked on you!
