Complaint Review: Top Priority Moving and Storage

In my case I originally started with a site I do not recall that gives estimates on long distance movers, I filled in the information and of course was told I would get contacted by several movers. I was contacted by ONE, Top Priority Moving and Storage. I gave them a listing of my items, mind you I included three bed sets, washer, dryer, 3 dressers, 40 boxes of books, documents and other personal items, television, kitchen chairs, table, bookcases, desks and computer.

I was quoted at $1300 being told I would have to do this before march 31, or at least give them a deposit to hold the truck. I called them in February, my move was for the first week of April. I was also told if I did this after march 31 i would be paying double. Then i was told if i wasn't taking all of the items listed it would be less. They continued to call me only they were pusing the deposit be done long before march 31, and that my move would have to be done before the first week of April and forced me to do it february 28. I agreed just to stop them from harrassing me and allowed them to take the $100 for the deposit which was supposed to be put towards my final bill.

My next and final itemized list was given to them february 27th. It included 20 boxes of books, documents and personal items, a desktop computer, 2 large black bags of clothing, no furniture, no washer and dryer. I was told my bill would be 990. I have the estimate still. The day they came to get the items I was told I needed to fax back the authorization for them to remove the money from the bank. I don't have a fax so was told it would be done on delivery.

My items were picked up and that is when i came across all the bad reviews and I called the bank and found out they removed $889 without my permission. I thought ok, that is not good and i called the company where I was informed I could not talk to the person who set this up and I asked about the money that was removed and was then informed I owed $381 more. I was highly upset over this as i am on SSI and that money they were stealing from me was for my son to come home to FL on and that i would get a call back because the person on the phone didn't know what was going on. 

I never got called back, the next day the driver called me and told me they would be there that day, nothing was said about me owing even more than they stole from my bank. They arrive and before anything was taken off the truck they wanted $381 I was very upset and called the company again where I was told that if i didn't pay up I wasn't going to recieve my belongings. I told them to take &889 worth off the truck since I had already been forced to pay that and was then told either i pay up or they are leaving.

I told them to leave, they left and the man called me back telling me he would take $50 off, then informed me after I refused that he would take $100 off. I told him I would pay it if he told the truth and told me he was robbing me, which he did say. The only reason i paied it was because they used some other small company in georgia to come and collect my things and bring them from CT to FL and their pay for this was $381...how nice. I felt bad for the actual movers because they did all the work and they were contracted by Top priority. Look at their site, they claim to have these trucks yet they do no work whatsoever. 

I am frustrated but more so wanting these people shut down so they can't rob anyone ever again. How can a business be left to keep doing this? Why hasn't anyone done anything about these despicable people? Can they really go in peoples bank accounts and rob them like that without the person knowing anything at all???

I was lucky and got my things but paid for it believe me, I think i only got MY things because there was nothing in there worth anything for them to steal and make more money from but read of others who weren't so fortunate. Please if your reading this and your a lawyer please help us. There are many of us these people have used and abused and they can't get away with it.

for those of you looking into this company for a business transaction don't be stupid like I was. Check them out, they aren't even accredited with the better business bureau where there are 17 complaints on these people. Sad but true there are people out there like this taking advantage of poor people as well as rich. Look at their logo, its a guy making a muscle...yeah bullies and that should have been a clue right there.
