Topline Moving and Storage Horrible moving experience Beltsville, Maryland
wish I could give them a half star or one fourth. They were that bad. We were moving apartments within the same community and wanted only movers, not a truck or anything. I talked to Jay at Topline and he gave me a 2 hour labor + 1 hour travel estimate of $225 which seemed reasonable to me. We set up a time of 1:00om - 3:00pm between which the movers would show up at my old apartment and start to move. On moving day it was already 1:30pm and there was no sign of either the
movers or a call from Topline so I called them and was told that the truck was stuck in traffic and they will show up between 3:30 and 4:00pm. I waited until 4:00pm and called again. Again I was told too much traffic delayed them. I asked to speak to the driver. The driver called me from the road and informed me that he was still at the previous job and hadnt started driving to my apartment yet and it would be 5:00pm by the time he leaves. So here I was on moving day, no movers yet and I was being told 2 different stories. The driver tells me he hasnt left yet while his supervisor tells me he is stuck in traffic. Bottomline was that they lied to me. The supervisor I talked to, Alon/Aaron assured me that themove will happen smoothly, and that he will give me a discount. At 5:00pm the driver calls to let me know he has left but due to traffic it will be 6:00 pm or so by the time they arrive. Finally it was 7:00pm when they arrived at my apartment. 6 hours late! The 3 guys, led by their leader walked into the apartment, and without even taking a look at what stuff was to be moved the leader says it will take 4 hours to move, which means I will have to pay for 5(4 hrs move + 1 hr travel) and that I will have to sign the contract first before they start moving. I refused to sign it because I was sure it would not take 4 hours to move and that the movers will deliberately slow
down the moving in order to accommodate the 4 hours. He said talk to my supervisor. I called his supervisor Alon/Aaron who was terribly rude to me, said if we dont sign the contract the movers will leave without performing the move, and that I will have to pay for 4 hrs if it takes 4 hrs. When I asked about the discount he said he will give me material for packing my mattress and glass table top for free! I told him I will move the table top myself and that we already have material to pack the mattress in, he was rude and did not listen to what we had to say and kept saying no contract no move. I was so stressed out. It was 7:30pm already and we hadnt moved yet and we had to surrender the old apartment the next day, after getting it cleaned.
Add to all this we have an infant at home, who needs to be fed and taken care of.
The moving guys walked out and were about to leave when my husband asked them to see reason, since we wouldnt be able to find new movers then and there. Somehow they stuck a deal for a flat rate of $300(worth 3 hrs move + 1 hour travel, 1 hour more than the estimate) and they started the move.
About an hour into the move the guy tells my husband to pay up for they will leave. We quickly saw why. They had done more than half the moving in the hour and he knew thought we would kick up a fuss if the whole move completes in 2 hours. My husband told him to get on with the work or he would call the cops. That seemed to have worked and they continued to work. Eventually by the time they finished, only 2 and a half hrs had passed. He reluctantly agreed to get paid for the time he had worked, and not for $300.
Overall, Topline movers lied to us about the fact that they were delayed because they left late for our apartment, held us up to ransom and refused to move unless paid and ingeneral caused us a lot of distress.
