I recxently bought 3 Toshiba laptops from Office Depot. The first one for myself on December 4, 2010. The other two I bought a few weeks later for my kids for Christmas. Total cost was over $1300. I never buy extended warranties and over the years I have come out way ahead because of this.

Unfortunately, this time I wasn't so lucky. I was carrying my computer in a case along with my children's luggage as we approached our motel room at the Clipper Ship Inn in Salem, MA when I slipped on a sheet of ice about 10 ft. from our door. When I went down I smashed my elbow pretty bad. After informing the motel, I went back to the room and opened up my computer to use it. When I flipped it open I noticed the screen was cracked.

I brought this to the attention of the motel and am currently in the process of filing a law suit for the injuries I suffered and damage to the computer. The motel is hoping this will just go away. Since I know that will be a long drawn out process I decided to contact TOSHIBA about getting my computer fixed.

When I contacted them and told them the issue they said they could fix it for $425. I only paid $459 for the unit!!! When I told customer service that someone local said they could fix it for around $225, the woman on the other end of the phone said the could do it for half of Toshiba's original quote!!! So you mean to tell me if I accepted the price of $425 she would have said nothing else about the half price deal? Sounds pretty shady to me. Please don't try to say she may have assumed I was talking about a more expensive laptop because she asked me for both the model and serial numbers beforehand.

Well I've always felt honesty was the best policy. If she had been upfront with me from the beginning my laptop would be at their repair center as I'm writing this. I will never do business with this company again. Overall I've been happy with the performance of my laptop and so have my kids but when we do upgrades in the future they won't be with Toshiba. I'm taking my computer to a local vendor next week when I get back home from a trip.

I tried to email Toshiba about this and the automated response was 'we don't respond to every email..........' What a surprise. They seemed like they really cared..................(insert sarcasm here)
