I filed a claim in early 2008. I had a burning smell coming through the vents. Total Project scheduled a technican (Spectrum) to come out. The tech said it was due to my kitchen catching fire the previous year (soot build up). He said the motor needed to be replaced. The tech told my husband and I that Total Project instructed them to find the customers liable. I told the tech that wasn't right. He called TotalProject and they told us that we had to replace the motor and we had to pay 200-300 for a new one. We paid and the motor was ordered. The tech came back about three to four days later and installed the motor. The system still did not function properly. I called the company and was told we were covered because of the 90 day timeframe. In the meanwhile I also checked to see if the A/C worked. When the tech arrived to inspect the motor I also told him about the A/C. He began to tell me that it need freeon. He later said it might be air in the line. He turned the motor up to see if air would come out. At 50 degrees it should have been very cool. The A/C and the heating system did not work. He said that they were separate units and performed separately. Whatever the case neither one works.

The motor is turned up so hight that you hear the noise throughout the house but it does not cool or heat. In addition I have gotten two bills from my electric company. The first bill was for 320 and the second was for 463. I have turned the heat off.

My husband has been diagnosed with throat cancer and the smell from the unit bothers him so I cannot turn it on when he is in the home and the cost it just too much.

I have tried to talk to a supervisor after the first incident. He set up another appointment with Spectrum and they came out to and charged me another 60.00 as if this was a new claim. I refused to pay. I called the Supervisor several times and this has not been resolved.

I feel that TotalProject is a big rip off. They will send someone out but they don't know what they are doing. PLEASE have someone investigate these claims. Any help is appreciated.

Research these home warranty companies before you pay your money. I wish my husband had taken the time.

TotalProject Home Service Plan Refused to cover repair to Heating/ Central Air Conditioning

I contacted TotalProtect on Jan 8, 2009 to inform them that my heating system is still not working properly. The company said that they would send Spectrum back out but that it would be a new claim. I said under no circumstance would they send Spectrum because they did not know what they were doing. They agreed to send another company. The other company came out on Jan 9, 2009 and checked the heating system. The tech knew right away what was wrong with the system - he said that the motor was installed wrong and thats why the air was not blowing out incorrectly. The tech said that they needed to purchase another motor.

On Jan 9, 2009, I spoke with a Supervisor at TotalProtect and he told me that he had to wait on the company's report and that it may be today or tomorrow; whenever they receive the report they would make a decision on what needs to be done. I quickly came to the conclusion "that my heating system needs to be fixed." I also asked if they would compensate me for my high electric bills and the supervisor said they are not responsible for utility bills, hotel stays, etc. I told him that if they had followed up and held the company responsible for their work I would not be going through this. He said became irritated and said that he could not make me understand. I am now irritated, I fell that TotalProtect and Spectrum should be accountable for their work. I am going to pursue legal means. I am interested in all those who are having problems with TotalProtect.
