I'm currently a server that is going to quit in a few weeks with how the operation is being run. On the five days of orientation, I spent most of the time sitting down for hours and hours with the management telling us the same policies over and over again. I'm an educated person working on a masters degree and they completely treated everyone like teenagers.  Everything was ran very unorganized. All the management and owners were running around with their heads chopped off taking their frustrations on all the new hired employees. The prices on the menu were different than the prices on the receipts, and they put the blame on the new hires even though the computer system and prices were wrong. They had recently let go of a girl who they had hired in this because of her European accent'. There was a situation where I was told to refill drinks to my table, and at the same time my other table was served their food without me being there. I was scolded for refilling a drink and not being at my other table at the same time. Then the owner made me ring in an order right after I served out their appetizers. So I did and the were brought out too early while they were eating their salad. Then he told me to check on my tables 4 times, and I did and the guests complained that I was too attentive. There is a new system called micros which everyone, including the management is getting use to. The employees are yelled at and scolded for it. The owners are telling the servers what to do, and they are blaming the servers for what they told them to do. They simply have no idea what they are doing.

You would think an educated man working on his "masters degree" would understand the concept of paragraphs.

Clearly On The Wrong Career Path

The writer of this alleged RipOff report included information not consistent with his complaint nor his claims.  The owner of the new Tower Grille in Glenview is an experienced and accomplished restaurant professional.  We have known him over ten years and have followed his successes in the restaurant business, not an easy market, in a variety of platforms.  Since we first met at his original Greek fine dining offering in Highwood, IL, he has succeeded in launching a lunch/breakfast model in Bannockburn, Long Grove, Glenview and Naperville before opening the Tower Grille.

The owner's passion for the restaurant business is without equal and the primary reason for his continued successes has been his people.  His retention level of staff, including managers, servers, cooks and support staff is unparalleled once he filters out the inappropriate hires in the weeks following the opening of each property.  The Tower Grille did a "soft opening" just after Labor Day, and as is the owner's custom, continues for several weeks to ensure that the menu, staff and model meet his standards before openly marketing the property.

I am not sure what the writer of the report I am questioning did before applying to be a server at the Tower Grill, other than working on his Master's Degree, but I must question his restaurant experience, his motivation for writing the report and the veracity of its contents, knowing the owner.  The first week or so in any new restaurant model is normally organized confusion - hence the soft opening.  What I read in his comments was content that was not articulated consistent with someone working on an advanced degree, as well as someone not taking responsibilities for their own actions.

I am confident that this person will be long gone the next time we visit the Tower Grille.  After less than a month, we would gladly recommend it to all interested in good food, generous portions, reasonable prices, friendly atmosphere and attentive service.
