My husband stopped by to talk to Bernie Shepard at Town Place Mobile Home Park, where my mother now lives. He asked Mr. Shepard if we could rent one of the new mobile homes he just moved in, or any other one. Mr. Shepard told my husband he would not rent us any mobile home because we had a teenager?? That ended the conversation for fear of Mr. Shepard ranting, raving and cussing, as he always does because he is getting old and senile.

Fair Housing Applies to Everyone

You should report him. He is violating the federal Fair Housing Law. It clearly states that family status is a protected class. To state that you can not rent a home because you have a teenager is very illegal, unless the community is adult only, and then, it can only be 55 years old or over. The entire community must be adult only or he has violated federal law. I know. I am a park manager.

That kind of thing is illegal under the Fair Housing act

senile or not, I believe mobile home parks are subject to the same rules under the Fair Housing act--they can't tell you they won't rent to you simply because you have a teenager.

Check it out.
