I bought a new 1999 Toyota Sienna. I bought Toyota because I thought they had a good reputation. Three years later (after having regular oil changes), I went to have an oil change and was told the oil was coming out very slowly.

It was recommended that I get another oil change within 1 month because every time I started up my van, all this smoke would come out. It looked like my car was on fire, there was so much smoke.

I got two more oil changes within 2 months. The smoke was still coming every time I started up my van. The company that did my oil change told me about a website they had found on my very problem.

That's how I found out about the Toyotal Sludge problem. I had not received any letter from Toyota. When my van was first put in the Toyota shop, I was told they would not pay for my rental. My van was in the shop for 5 weeks.

I found out through websites that Toyota would pay for my rental during this time(they never informed me of this).

So far I have not received any bills from the rental company or Toyota. I'm scared to drive my van on any long distance trips, which is why I bought my van in the first place.

I feel Toyota should buy my van back so that I can buy a dependable vehicle. They knowingly sold people these automobiles and waited for these problems to arise, when they could have had a recall and fixed these problems before they happen, no matter what the cost to them.

I understand I am not out of the woods, because the sludge can come back. If I'm having regular oil changes, how can I trust the vehicle I'm driving if this can happen again?

Based on the incorrect information in the Toyota maintenance manuals I believe Toyota lied to the consumers. I'm now told I have to get oil changes in half the time stipulated in the manual. Is Toyotal going to pay for these extra oil changes?
