Tracfone Wireless Tracfone Unlocking Policy Internet
Bought a Android Tracfone from QVC, LG L41C and used it for two years. Called to have it unlocked only to find out that they had changed their unlock policy. Now they require you to request to unlock the phone within 60 days of discontinuing your service.
If you go beyond the 60 days, you must subscribe another year to get your phone unlocked.
Filed a complaint with the FCC as the law states they have to unlock your phone.
Wish I had read all the complaints prior to purchasing this phone.
Though filing this report would let people know before you buy or at least give you the one up if you want to unlock your phone.
All phones can be unlocked on any carrier after one year of service.

There is no LAW that states a carrier must unlock a phone after ANY amount of time. What you are probably refering to is the VOLUNTARY guidelines set out by CTIA in which the companies who sign onto these guidelines have established guidelines for unlocking a phone. But they can and do vary by carrier.

So yes, it is totally valid for a company to require you to request the code within a certain amount of time.
