For some bizarre reason, my elderly mother decided to replace all  of the windows in our home that had been working perfectly from early 1952 to  December 2002. I visited from my home in Manhattan from time to time and would open the window next to my bed. Within 7 months of 3 short visits, it would not stay open any longer.

Despite paperwork that claimed a lifetime limited warranty, the company said there was only a one year warranty on windows not opening. This is not in the paperwork we received.

Because my mother was going to order more windows, they decided to "fix" the window that had been opened no more than 100 times at the very most. It was 2007 when mother ordered more windows, by then the second window in the same bedroom had been malfunctioning  for 4 years. This window had been opened no more than 100 times as well during my few visits.

That second window was next to the first broken one, and THAT one went bad in the same way and will not stay open. How can old wooden windows work perfectly for over 50 years, and brand new windows go bad within months? My mother called about the second window but they said they would not cover it. There is also a large missing portion cracked off in the part of the window you use to lift it up.

Amazing as it sounds, the limited warranty does not cover:

"Normal wear and tear."  Which could mean anything at all.

Also not covered are:

"Improper Installation"

"Breakage, cracking or other damage to insulating glass units caused by handling in shipment or during installation."

What kind of warranty does not cover normal wear and tear? And it certainly does not cover un-normal wear and tear. All I did was open and close windows in a bedroom that had no air-conditioning when I came to visit. I am appalled at the service of this company. I have never ever heard of anyone not standing behind their products in such a way. The salesman actually said, "because you are ordering more windows, we will fix the broken one which is no longer under the year long warranty." I would love to see where this is in our paperwork. I cannot find it.
