After Hurricane Wilma, in October, 2005, I called several companies to assist in rebuilding a Florida room, and retiling the whole roof of my home that was destroyed. Transflorida Corp. sent a salesman out who was polite and seemed honest. After checking out their license and postings with the B.B.B., I decided to do busines with them, since there were no red flags that I could find, and they advertized daily in the Sun Sentinel. They were in business for over ten years. Mike Clark, who is Vice President of the Company, sat down with me at my home and convinced me that they could do everything I want done and much more. I ended up with a contract for $192,000.00 that included adding a new bathroom, redoing two others, rebuilding a new Florida Room, adding eight feet to one side of my house, adding an additional room, retrussing the roof, pool heater, new dock and pool deck, and retiling whole house. I gave them a total of $71,738.14 by May of 2006. They didn't file for the permit until November 29, 2006. They needed to correct a few items and it took until March 23, 2007 to receive the final permit. The only work done so far, is the dock, which was cost around $10,500. done last summer in June. They gutted a Florida Room and boarded it up with plywood and gutted the master bathroom, and pool deck. They wanted all the contents of my house put in storage in December, which I did, because they said work would be starting in days.I am living in a "shell" of a house, boarded up in the back, with a sand pit for over a year where the pool deck was and a trench for the new foundation. The roof is a light paper that isn't water proof, just resistant. The company was on Channel 9 in Brevard (Central) Florida 2 weeks ago for consumer complaints for not even starting work that was suppose to take a few days. There were 7 or 8 others that talked to the News Station. Some people are waiting between 8 months to over a year like myself. The B.B.B.in Central Florida has 55 complaints filed against Transflorida Corp. before they revoked their membership. All my calls to the company go unanswered. They have no work crews for South Florida, so have to put workers in hotels to get anything done. In all this time, only the demolition stated and a dock have been done. According to a Project Manager, there are about 50 other customers with contracts between Hollywood and Vero Beach who are quite unhappy and need assistance. With the new hurricane season approaching next month, I think the public should be aware of of this Company who is first on hand to take deposits, but does little or no work.
